The FA cup is a major trophy unlike the Carling Cup. If Liverpool overcome Chelsea then Dalglish will be given another year even if not I still expect him to be given another year. Because of the flux at FSG NOT because he is the right man. But the FA cup is not a subsitute for league progress and anyone who thinks so certaintly does not know Liverpool history or ethos.

I'm not syaing it means 'nothing', I'm saying it means very little to me. In terms of moving us forward us a club financially it means very little and relative to the importance of the winning the league it is almost insignificant. Also, winning domestic cups is clearly no indication of whether we are progressing or we wouldn't be where we are in the league.
But some people do enjoy the cups, which is fine - I have no problem with that.
I have a problem when people say kenny is doing a good job and they use the domestic cups as 'proof'....

Were the portsmouth and birmingham managers doing a good?
Was it a springboard for them?
Did it move them forward as a club?
Did it improve their league positions?

It is what it is - a knockout cup competition where form and favourites often go out of the window. If we win a cup great - if we don't...nevermind, what's for tea?

True you have to have luck but look at man utd they may not win nothing this season

I am sure they would take a fa cup final any day

But i agree league is an indication of how you are doing overall

Of course they'd want a cup final but at what expense? As a fan, if you were offered the following options last august what would you take?

1) 2 domestic cup finals
2) 2nd place in the league, level on points with 2 games left to play

The reasons that teams don't often win the double is because the cups are far FAR less important and even the strongest squads will prioritise competitions.

Kenny staying is an unlikely long-shot, FSG don't have sentimental attachment to him, and the league disaster means their will be no fan-backlash except from hardcore Kenny fans

oh wow Cjkent what's football history then my friend?
Dont tell me you will sit there and write about how Kenny D won the league 20+ years ago. Time to wake up boy.
All I know, boy, Liverpool missed the CL place and we are a flop in the league.
And i tell you one thing the league is what's important.
ok sure we won that cup and might win the other but with no CL and a 9 or 8 place is not ok, even with 1 or 2 English cup wins.

I would take Utd's season over ours any day of the week. And if we were in that position going for the title till the last game of the season we would be in seventh heaven. Its the league that matters and the job of any Liverpool manager.
