I have been thinking about Liverpool FC today as I watched the Norwich game which I had taped. This is what I think is going on in John Henry’s head. It’s a total guess of course we get more communications from the leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un than we do out of FSG, so a guess is what it has to be.

The driver is I believe there are as yet no plans or commitment to invest heavily or commit to LFC at this stage particularly with regard to the new stadium or Anfield re-furb. They are pursuing a wait and see approach. They are not happy with the transfer performance or league position and have to be seen to do something. Hence the sacking of Comolli and one of two other people and maybe more to come. It also makes sense to appoint a new director of football to implement the medium term strategy independent of the manager.

But they won’t sack Dalglish not because he is the right manager or they believe in him. They will leave him in charge to start next season.

Why? Two reasons a new manager must be a top manager or have potential to be. That manager would want to know the answer to what is happening to the club generally and that must include the new stadium which is pivotal to the clubs future success and being in Europe’s elite (which is where the big money will be). He will also probably demand over a hundred million or so and that was given out last year. Given the lack of vision JH would be loath to commit such a sum now. So we don’t have those answers now. Also Dalglish has a lot of capital with Liverpool supporters to sack him end of this season would provoke a backlash especially if the new man did not start well. So better to let Dalglish burn himself out next season when it will be obvious to even the most fanatical Dalglish legender that he is not the man. If of course in the event Dalglish does turn it around then from their point of view fine it’s a win win and they will be lauded for sticking with him.

But I believe they believe he will burn out, I do and I am certain the thought has occurred to them they will know more about Dalglish than we do you can be sure of that. I hear they are giving a transfer budget of around £20m (was on ESPN) if so for me this stacks with that strategy which is essentially “lights on only” strategy until they know what they are doing.

That’s my best guess as to what’s going on. It may well be FSG have already conceded we are not going to qualify for the champions league for the next 2 years are just building up the commercial side as best they can. For us fans though if this is true then we are probably going to sit around where we are now for the next 2 to 3 years.

Perhaps its £20mill at the moment, but the owners have made it clear, win the FA CUP and we'll make it £40-50mill, plus whatever you recoup from player sales?

I don't buy the £20mill rumor entirely, it rests on the final whether or not Kenny is given more.

It's stupid to see that rumor, then rumors of signing 2-3 players for around £20mill each. It makes no sense!

We've also secured that new sponsor, and the owners said that will allow more money to be put into the squad also.

I wouldn't believe everything you read in the paper.

We'll just have to wait and see.

That's what I think stan! It rests on the FA Cup final regarding spending.

I don't think the owners have conceded no Champions League for 2 seasons either. They wanted it this season, and haven't got it!

This summer will tell you how serious or not they are. If it's more of the same and average signings, then you might be right.

If we sign some genuine class, then expect Kenny to be given 6 months MAX. If we're not challenging come 6 months, then they'll make the decision.

fair enough Craney that could happen like you say. But my view is they will invest for long tern return and lovely though the fa cup is there is not much money in it. There again they could do a man utd 1990 but the game is different now.

I think there is something we're not talking about here, FSG's heavy investment in youth, that leads me to think that they have the bones of a long term plan.
Thats what they did with the Red Sox, bought young promising talent and it payed off, it took 3 or 4 seasons but it did work, now we just need Kenny to start playing some of them..

I know that, perhaps the owners see it as some sort of reward for such a poor league season?

If we loose in the final (which I I doubt) expect Kenny to either be sacked, or be given only £20mill if kept.

If we win, I think the owners might just dip into there pockets a bit more to improve the squad. Not a lot more though, mind. But enough to significantly impact the squad.

2-3 CLASS signings.

Good post FSG are businessmen first and foremost. Businessmen do not invest money buying a business invest in youth and invest in the first team squad see their investment devalue after a year and jump ship and sell for a loss. That kind of knee jerk reaction is better left to fans that's my opinion. The owners have done nothing wrong so far. Although I would like them to make a decision on the stadium sooner rather than later smile

Absolutely, a move on the stadium would be the best way to show their intent, but I do think they're in it for the long haul.
They may be thinking another season with KD might ( might ) raise the club's profile a little more and attract a better manager next year..maybe not
