I could hardly believe my ears listening to the radio, John Terry will now be allowed to lift the CL trophy if Chelsea win it?. I am speechless, if your banned your banned, you play no part in the game you don't lift the trophy, the ban is a punishment that means you are relieved of your duties, captain or no captain. i know some will say have a heart but they should change the rules to suit everyone not just for the captain in the final,what next, let the banned Chelsea players play?

poor john. he really isn't that type of fella, or so he keeps saying. they won't win anyway but if i was the captain on the day and they did win no way i would let mongo get his horrible paws on it.

This is a bad omen to have in my opinion. I remember Fabragas was so eager to lift the league cup last year even tho he was injured that he forgot his team has to win the final first to do so. Chelsea to lose.

Also, regarding that last sentence of yours. I actually would like to see the suspended 6 players (3 from each side) get to play in the final because it is very cruel to play so long to get to a major final and then miss out. Barlennon touched on this on the other thread and also the Footballers Union are backing those players as well to get to play. I am not saying Terry should play because he saw straight red for violent conduct but those who have received cruel bookings like Abala today (Bayern player) should have their cards chalked off.

I think its wrong as well so agree with poster. But did one of our players also life the cup while not playing a few years ago. Was it Jamie Redknapp ? I think he was injured which for Jamie was more often than not.

Snakeye, i could agree with you on allowing players to play in the final regardless of suspensions which is why i said if its the rule then it must be stuck to IE change the rules at the beginning of the season, but not at the end to accomomdate the likes of john terry.

I cant remember who lifted the cup for us even though he didnt play but its not the lets have a go at lifting the cup for the family album photo's with your suit on, its get your kit on for the official historic photos i dont agree with, history will portray a false picture. He wasnt there ...so to speak, but lets pretend he was.

Yeah, UEFA is an absolute mess. I get where people are coming from, that it's a shame to see certain players miss the final. I especially feel bad for Alaba, because his yellow card (and that penalty) was absolutely ridiculous on all sorts of levels. On a certain level, I think UEFA needs to stick to their guns here. The rule itself should be changed, no doubt about it. But, as long as the rule is in place, maybe they should stick to it. If they want, they can change the rule this summer so that it takes effect next year. To show a total disregard for their own rule really undermines their own authority to a certain extent. And really, it's not like these players didn't know what was coming. Apart from Alaba, I think all the yellows that were handed out to Meireles and co. were warranted. If I recall, Meireles' or Ramires' tackle was particularly stupid.

But really, I can see the arguments either way. I'm not particularly convinced by either side.
