I love Liverpool Football club as much as any fan, I feel the pain when we lose and the joy when we win as much as anyone. I've experienced incredible nights both domestically and in Europe, and I remember fond days of 'the Liverpool way'.

But our magnificent and unparalleled history breeds arrogance, entitlement and pretentiousness.

Not many managers understand what LFC is about...what are we about? Are we about Anfield and our past? Or are we about trying to become a great modern club and having a great future? The Liverpool job is a difficult one because of expectation and a fan connection that perhaps some other clubs don't have I grant you, but this idea that managers don't understand what it means etc etc, those days are gone. It is all just pretentious noise, if a manager comes in and does well its because he makes the right choices, not because he 'understands' what LFC is about. LFC doesn't currently know what it's about. We are currently searching for our identity again in modern football, many many years too late. And this is one of the reasons we are so far behind.

I understand your reasoning on our past may hinder us in the modern day game but we cant be expected in any way to forget it and/or use it as a stick to beat fans who cling to it in times like this, because after all our past is what gives us the hunger to go forward, we have seen the glories of the win whilst others who haven't are paying big bucks to achieve exactly what we have done so i myself don't think its possible to detach from the past or say use it as an excuse as to our problems now , our history must be relished and fondly remembered and passed down to the next generation ,Ok i agree with you saying some can be far too expectant and think its a given right to win things because that's what we are use to, but whether that's the right thoughts to have or not i cant say we have to bury our past to in some way move on from it to compete today.I am from the old school but i dont think its old fashioned to think treasure our past but still modernise and improve without ignoring our history, we cant change the history but can influence the future.just my thoughts! Just a little note,i too dont think we need a who knows what we are about that will come with time.

I agree with bigredkop we could go back to the days of the boot room but the game has changed now. We still have some assets a huge fan base but we have to find our own way now in the game as it is today. Plenty teams like Huddersfield or Preston North End that has a history but are nothing now. But we had better sort things out fairly soon or we will have missed the boat.
