How much time did we give Peter Crouch? I believe it took him 19 matches before he scored any goals. Yes, he helped people around him play. Just like Carroll did today, except that no one managed to find the net.
So the question is, are we going to have patience with Carroll and let him find his feet, or are we going to splash out a bit on a ready-made forward despite our owners giving strong hints that it's against the policy? Personally I think we need a player who is different to both Carroll and Suarez, so that he may complement whichever one he partners, and we should be looking at someone who is not expecting to play every game for the club. I don't know who this mystery player is, but I believe the way forward is to have 3 strikers who may be rotated, rather than 2 with some forgotten guy as a backup (ala N'Gog). Perhaps the new guy proves to be better than Carroll, or Carroll suddenly improves because his position is under threat. Either way it's good for the club and can hopefully be done under 10m pounds.
Absolutely agree on the RW need - this is what I believe should be our priority this summer. Kuyt will or should be offloaded, and Bellamy can't play every game, so we need someone other than Henderson or Downing to fill that hole because neither really suits it.

Crouch was a good player as well but again he was never good enough to a be a first teamer for a top side. Carroll isn't competing against nothing. We could have a better player as our first choice no.9 in my personal opinion. He is improving, he can in games be the difference some times, but that isn't enough if we want to be a top club again. I do agree we need someone different to either Suarez or Carroll because Suarez and Carroll, again in my opinion, will never ever get the best out of each other no matter how long they play together. They are the wrong type of striker for the other. An out and out goal scorer with pace and runs beyond (either suarez or Carroll) someone who plays off the defender, is what both of them need. I would rather spend big for someone like this who looks like he can be top class, rather than give Carroll time to be as you said a peter crouch who can bring others into play. We should be thinking bigger and I think we can. At the moment I don't think we can attract a striker of quality and keep all 3 happy as the extra domestic cup and europa league rarely keeps people happy. And we have seen Carroll can't play unless he has a run in the team. I can't see that suggestion coming off until we are competing for top 4, and I don't see us getting top 4 with carroll as first choice striker. Though as you said in another thread it would be ludicrous to drop him, he IS playing better, and today played well for most of the game not just some of it, he's scored two winners, we win more when we play 2 up top, it makes no sense to drop him as some have suggested.

We without a doubt, need more than 2 players over the summer. Our central midfield is rubbish, They have scored 8 goals between them, and 5 came from SG.
I really believe that we need a box to box mid i.e. Javi Martenez (In my dreams), Moussa Sissoko, Lewis Holtby, Joao Moutinho, Milan Badelj, Kwadwo Asamoah.
An attacking creative mid. There are so many around like Gylfi Sigurdsson, Gaston Ramirez, Clint Dempsey, Ander Herrera, Yoann Gourcuff, Stephane Sessegnon, Diego, Danny. So many!
A right winger, who know any?
A decent striker. Cardozo, Fernando Llorente, Soldado, Negredo etc.

We also missed out on Ronaldo, Alves, VIlla etc the list goes on. Nothing new, it seems our club goes for the more overpriced average players instead of the cheaper players with immense talent. smh

Always enjoy your posts Thundyr beacause whilst most of us agree little with each other you always logically lay out why you think this is or should be done this way. In regard Carroll, he has improved (could he get any worse for an EPL striker) however, he can improve all he likes but you can't suddenly become pacey when you aren't. We need a lightening quick striker; our side is slow enough as it is!! Carroll maybe a good rotational tool but the game is about pace, he has none and we desperately need it all over the field. For those who are incredibly criticizing Suarez, just stop and think for a minute how good the guy could be if we had a couple of players who actually created and fed him the ball, rather than him having to be everything at all times?

We need an awful lot of new players, a new manager, new stadium and huge investment to seriously challenge for the top spots. It's all well and good thinking that our 'promising' reserves could help (this happens every year and no one usually comes through that we expect), but if they aren't good enough to get a game ahead of the likes of downing, henderson, spearing, adam & carroll then they clearly aren't as 'promising' as some people are making out. To put it another way, Ken must be picking his best side each week if he wants to win games.......meaning adam, spearing and henderson are much better than those waiting in the wings?!? God help us - :shudder:

We just need a finisher in the box. End of. Someone like hernandez, jelavic, diego, villa, fowler etc. Someone who instinctively knows how to put the ball in the net. Suarez and carroll are neither.
