Excellent article about Lucas, and his importance to the team. Makes some great reading with some very interesting stats. For anyone still doubting his importance to the team overall, I think this speaks volumes.

Wow, that Total Tackles Graph speaks volumes. Looking forward to having him back, anyone know if he will be fit for the summer tour of US and Canada?

Rafa stuck w Lucas cos he knew that there's something in him. Without Rafa persisting w him, we'd have no lucas to speak about today.

We've missed him no doubt but that article is purely statistical and does not show the whole picture. I mean how does that author know that we could of won 50% of our games and could of picked up 70 pts with Lucas? Obviously he measures this on the first few games that Lucas was available which I find bizarre considering a season consists of 38 games and there would of been many twists and turns. Add the fact that we are abysmal in front of goal which Lucas has no real impact on considering he is a DM. The article doesn't add up for me as the statistics on it is strongly exaggerated.

What I think skews a lot of the Lucas stats is that he is a DM. By nature he will attempt more tackles than any other player in the squad. The only disappointment for me is how much weaker Spearing obviously is, rather than how much better Lucas is than his team mates at his speciality.

But you know what caught my eye in those stats? How Martin Kelly (who himself has barely played half the season) is in the top 5 on 3 of those 4 "efficiency" stats on the second page (2 of which he is higher than Lucas, and all 3 relate to regaining the ball). Is it fair to say then that Martin Kelly is our best defender?

i would say at the moment his probably the 2nd best defender at our club after agger. skrtel has done excellent this season but is this the real standard of skrtel or is he on the form of his life ( eg adam last year, he played way above his usual standard).

The article only shows tackles "attempted' and not tackles "won". It also fails to mention that Lucas is the only player we have who plays in the DM role - He's our best defensive midfielder with the highest attempted tackles purely by default.
He is a good player but people are misremembering him. Even up until his injury his form was erratic - 1 good game, 2 average games, 1 poor game, 1 good game, 2 average games, 1 poor game. If people are expecting his return to catapault us up the table they will be deeply disappointed. That said, his return will be very welcome if it reduces the amount of games that spearing gets.
