With all the talk of how disappointing we have been in the league this season, is it actually correct to think that way?
It seems to me that Kenny/Comolli has gone out with the brief of hiring "mid-table" quality coaching staff and players.
It is no surprise we are where we are.
Henderson, Adam, Downing and Carroll are all mid table players and always will be regardless of any justification people try to put on it.
Yes we should do better with over £100m spent(please leave the NET spend alone, as we have still spent over the odds on mediocrity!), but if we continue to buy average players who "may", and I use that term loosely, come good then we will all be feeling this way for the seasons ahead
On the coaching side, yes Steve Clarke was successful whilst at Chelsea, but that was under Mourinho! It was no coincidence that Steve Clarke saw the demise of West Ham and also now of us in the league.
Added to that the hiring of Kevin Keen, where did we really expect to finish in the league this season?
I keep hearing the players/manager say we have improved the quality of the squad? Have we really improved on the playing side or simply got rid of the "dead-wood" and replaced it with yet more dead-wood but on smaller salaries?
I appreciate that the players HAVE to say that they think this squad is capable of beating anyone on their day etc, but are we all really being fooled by this?? Serious improvement is needed both on and off the field.
I believe, when taking everything into account, that we are perhaps right where we ought to be.
