Waz u saying this crap abt sg, wen his goals beat the blue noses recently?.... yes or no flames....

Did that game not show u that sg, is far from.finished and apart from.him our other quality players are ...Reina, agger, Lucas, saurez.
That tells you the starting 11 has got 5 quality players, 6 average to poor players in it.
Sg has been carrying the team for yrs.

i agree.when lucas first came i didn't think he was as bad as everyone said,he was young new club etc now he's probably our best player.the problem is we have no decent cover so sg can't do what he does best and on his day he is the best.the problem is the days of his best are becoming few and far between and what will the euros do to/for him.probably not much and even less for us

i do love sg nitemare but it has been widely and correctly reported that moyes put out a crap team to stay in fa cup when he could have had a victory at anfield for 1st time in decade and gone above us.now who do we play in next round of cup which will be a completely diff affair from anfield and on both teams form we don't look the stronger.also they;re only 2 pts behind.what if they put us out and finish above us the hat trick was only worth bragging rights to our poor disillusioned blues brothers

If he can get over his nagging injuries he can finish his career on a high and probably win more trophies. I like him as a captain because he leads by example, shows the lads how its done. However I find it hard to believe that we play better without him, a player with his quality always makes the difference. He and Suarez are the the only great attacking players we have and we need more players like these around those two to help them win games.

Bit too matter of fact for me this post. The debate about what gerrard can provide is far from a closed thing, heart ruling heads maybe for you, but for plenty he is still the perfect choice from our available players. We are a club that often lets their hearts rule their heads, carra was first choice for too long for the most definitive example. Gerrard and Dalglish staying in current roles are the current possible cases. But by no means can you attribute 'heart rule head' to Gerrard just yet. Because he isn't as bad as ur suggesting.

i'm not suggesting he's a bad player and i agree with you he's the best player we have apart from lucas when he wasn't injured and suarez when supported.my point is over the past few seasons he hasn't really inspired the team as he did in 05 cl campaign or 06 fa victory.maybe with his injuries he isn't able to carry the other 10 anymore.to argue against myself he hasn't had the bodies to support him.i would still always look to him to do something but his rockets from outside the box have dried up and although i would prefer to have him in the team but i think we have seen the best of him

I completely agree he is past his best but his current best is still far more creative than any other player we have bar suarez. Also, whilst we might not ever get an Istanbul esque inspirational performance from him again, that doesn't mean he's still not incredibly inspirational for the players. You can see he still grabs 10 minutes here and there of the odd game by the scruff of the neck (Everton for the majority of the game), but some of us feel that's not enough but only in comparison to what he used to be. He is a victim of how simply astonishing he used to be.

Captains aren't normally that good nor inspirational, we were spoilt and want more of it when it rarely exists. He for me is still the best captain we have without a doubt, he is still more inspirational and creative and talented than most of the other captains in the league. I honestly don't think you guys are objectively comparing him to other captains, your comparing him to what he used to be, and we can't think like that. Just because he isn't he isn't that istanbul winner anymore, doesn't mean there is another one in our ranks or one readily available (in fact very few teams have one) in another club we could poach.

are 10 mins here and there enough.he is basically first on the sheet and sometimes i feel that when he's not there[i'm not saying get rid] the team have to shoulder more responsibility and look to break the opposition down without relying on him so we play different football.he will never be cl 05 again but thats ok nobody gets younger.i agree we have been extremely lucky to have a captain like him and if we get anybody 1/2 as good we'll be laughing.i would ask why we have to compare him to other captains.i don't care about their captains thats their business.lastly you mention the everton game,moyes has already admitted he fielded a team to secure fa cup not to win at anfield.his teamsheet said it all.my mate a diehard toffee watched the game at mine and when he saw the teamsheet he was near ready to leave'he is past his best but he is still one of our best players and that is a sad fact

I'm not sure what point your trying to make then? And It is worth mentioning what other captains bring because that is a bench mark to measure what we should expect as a minimum from our captain. That's obvious.
