We have had 249 corners this season and scored 4 goals....(1 goal every 62 corners....digest that for a while......)

So what is the biggest problem, the providers or the finishers? "both" is the easy answer but is it the correct one? I actually think there is a 3rd ingredient - tactics. I've lost count of how many times i got encouraged to see we had won a corner only to find we'd only put 2 or 3 men in the box!! With that kind of negativity (a buzz word around here lately...) it wouldn't matter if we had the best crosser and the best header(er?) in the league on our team.

In fairness,Liverpool have been awful from corners for the last few seasons,I suppose that some teams work on set-pieces more in training than other teams who try to play more expansive football.

Stoke are an obvious example, very tall and physical team who work hard from corners, frees and throw ins.

i would say the problem is both, we have big strong players i.e carroll, skrtel, kelly, enrique, kuyt. but they don't attack the ball enough. and too many of our corners are hung up towards the back post meaning most of the time we have to win 2 headers before we can score.

are we good at anything this season? besides hitting the post!

To be honest the only teams I watch in the league that put in a set-piece meaningfully are Bolton and Stoke.

Corners and set-pieces are slowly dieing in football. The delivery is so poor and waste full, I sometimes wonder that if we don't have a player that can whip a ball in the way it should be done, then play it short and keep the ball.

Instead of just aimlessly and wastefully kicking the ball in the box and end up giving the other team possession that they could score from.

When we don't have enough bodies in the box we have nobody outside the box picking up the second ball either.

Shocking statistic Carheex, didn't realise it was THAT bad of a ratio.
Very loosely related (involves corners kinda) but didn't know where to put it, has anyone else noticed that players like henderson, downing, Carroll seem to think their job is 'done' when they win a corner.
What I mean by that is, players of serious quality, Gerrard, Suarez, Torres (even at Chelsea) etc, they try to beat or deliver a good cross (don't always succeed) and if they win a corner crowd cheers and they get ready to attack it but they try to do something with the attacking position before they think about winning a corner.
Now Downing hendo Carroll, I very often see in a good position, and very deliberately kick the ball at the defender knowing they will get a corner and walk towards to box ready to attack the corner with a smug look of 'yes i did it'. They quite clearly see winning a corner as an achievement. I always see Hendo and Carroll do it in particular, there is a pass short on, or space to beat a player, or an early opportunity for a cross but instead they run it towards the bi line and deliberately win a corner. These players are no longer at clubs with mid table aspirations. That is NOT good enough.
Honestly look out for it, you will see it every game, they will think they've done the club a service by winning a corner instead of actually trying to utilise the position they're in. We are not stoke. And I think it underlines their small club, small player, low quality, mentality.

I would be interested to see how many has the league leaders, man city or united have scored from a corner. Our corners have been miserable but looking at a stat like corners is strange to say the least. A lot of teams hardly score from them.
