I've seen Spearing get some great forward passes to the wide areas where we can break and damage teams. He is a very limited player at the moment but lets not forget this is the first time he breaks to the senior team this season thanks to the injury of Lucas. I can see him improving and getting a lot better as he gets more games. I will not write him off just yet.
Bit like what happened with Lucas then really?
Absolutely. If players like Adam and Hendersen which have costed us millions need time to adapt than I can't see why Spearing doesn't deserve more time to learn and up his game.
Adapt to 'what' though? Lucas had a damn good reason for needing to adapt though:
A) he was young and coming from a different continent
B) as soon as he arrived he was played out of position from day 1 so had to learn a new trade
C) he couldn't speak a word of the 'queens'
But he was always going to come good as he was the brazillian footballer of the year. Henderson on the other hand already has premiership experience, speaks fluent english (presumably), and knew some of the squad before he arrived - there was no settling in period for him or any adapting to overcome. Yet with all of those advantages he still gives aboslutely nothing - I am convinced that those who think he has potential just 'hope' he has potential because 'he's young (ish)' and IF he comes good it will mean kenny made a decent albeit massively overpriced signing.
You could replace with him with
any central midfielder in the premiership, or championship (possible even league 1) without any noticeable difference.
Interesting article here, where it says he started out as right midfielder but when moved to centre-mid even the sunderland fans booed him for his poor performances....
