Perhaps this will be a more interesting question.

He wins a CL title with a team he did not build.
He gets us to another CL final and the loses to an older weaker version of a team we beat before.
He wins an FA cup on the back of Steven G.
He pisses off Alonzo who then leaves.
He is given money, but buys substandard players.
He makes confusing and often poor tactical decisions.
He is capable of stunning performances one week against Man U, Real M etc and then rubbish against the likes of Fulham etc.

So why do you want to keep him?

because he looks like a jolly old fellow. smile

its not that i would be so overly fond of him, its just that this is the situation we are in, and getting rid of him is maybe not the solution we think its gonna be.

also the above list is a litle biased. he did bring in torres, johnson, kuyt, benny, reina (who solved major goal keeping problems if you remember). we were also on fire in the second half of last season, so there was everything to suggest we were on the up, and if we hadve pipped united to the title, we wouldnt be having this conversation. it hasnt been all bad.

1) True. However, Ged couldn't motivate several of those players.

2) [oops] happens.

3) Silly point.

4) I blame Alonso also. However I don't think Rafa handled it very well.

5) Torres? Johnson? Look at the duffs Wenger and Fergie have bought. Hindsight is wonderful.

6) True

7) Look at the players we had out. The Utd game was a home tie and the players were up for it more due to the atmosphere. I blame the players more so here.

Some good points but some not so good points.

Now tell us who should take over? I could be convinced smile

would it be fair to say if we sold four players, babel voronin kyriagos and lets say lucas, and with some injected funds bought four quality players, we would be succesful?
if thats the case were not as far away as we think.

on a completely different point, i think carra went in for some hard criticism on sat, considering he was asked to play alongside three non regualar players. Degen was disgraceful for the first goal, not gettting close but also not playing offside, while standing on the wrong side of the forward and i watched in horrror as lucas scratch hmself in the box while fulham blazed the ball just over. still not convinced by lucas at all.

For the sake of discussion I am being a little hard and some of those points are somewhat tongue in cheek. I am not convinced that replacing Rafa at this point is such a good idea. I just see such a blind following of him from many supporters.

Also, I do believe that Rafa's tactical decisions last season cost us the prem and this should be noted rather than a satisfaction for second place.

im certainly not satisfied with second, just trying to get a gauge of how far/close we were/are.

i will say this though. if raff didnt love the club he'd have left already. especially with madrid knocking on the door. why else would he put up ith all this pressure and stay on, potentiaslly putting his reputation on the line?
