“Yes, it is nice to have it in the bag but we are bigger and better than that,” he said. “We should be looking to get into Europe every year through our league position rather than the Carling Cup.
THE ABOVE IS A COMMENT FROM CARRAGHER
maybe now it has come from the horses mouth, all you sheep will listen and understand the point I was making, that the win was great but by means enough for anyone with an ounce of ambition.

Some of the comments here are incredibly naive - coming from people who appear not to have been around football for long.
Firstly, the games are on played on paper. Secondly, cup finals often don't go according to form - and are turgid affairs. Thirdly, all teams occasionally struggle against lower division teams (ie. Spurs not being able to beat Crawley Town recently), Fourthly, good teams mostly have to win ugly to win competitions. Fifth, a win is a win. Sixth, there isn't a lot of difference between a championship team gunning for promotion (Cardiff) and a premiership team near the drop zone (Villa). Seventh, Cardiff were playing for the pride of Wales. Eighth, ask any of the 96 plus clubs in England and Wales if they'd like to win the Carling Cup or not...
I really shouldn't have to point this all out to you... +1. Solid points. I agree that we shouldn't settle for just this win here, but the cup is massive for morale and to teach our new, young players something fundamental to the Liverpool way: what winning feels like. You saw what it meant to them to win Silverware, some for the first time, some for the first time in a long time. They will want this feeling again, I guarantee it.

maybe now it has come from the horses mouth, all you sheep will listen and understand the point I was making, that the win was great but by means enough for anyone with an ounce of ambition. Maybe you would do well to learn English? Carragher didn't say he didn't want to win the Carling Cup. He said that winning the Carling Cup was not the only way to get into Europe, and that the other route (via the league) was more suited to a club of our stature. After all, the Carling Cup does not grant a Champions' League spot, does it? He said something we all know - Liverpool should not need to rely on winning the Carling Cup in order to qualify for the EL season-by-season. If you had a point, Carragher nullified it. It's clear he understands the difference between winning a cup and being worthy of competing on the European stage. A cup win raises the profile of the club. Finishing 4th means you're good enough for the CL. But a cup win means your club has the mettle to go the distance, to win ugly, to lift silverware. Finishing 4th does not imply that. This season we'd want both. Some seem to think that not finishing 4th would imply winning a cup was meaningless, when nothing could be further from the truth. One step at a time. You'd have us run before we could walk. You think we're still that club that challenged for the title season-after-season, when we haven't been that club for 20 years. We can't become that club again until we get back on the path. The impact of winning a cup to end a 6 year trophy drought should never be underestimated, no matter your personal opinion of the value of the competition.

You make yourself look silly with non sensical responses. And of course your trade mark smiley face at the end which makes it seem like your a 13 year old who's snuck his smart phone into lesson with him.
