no im not going to go on a predicting bore fest, but a week or so ago we were talking about 4th and i mentioned that the last 10 games or so is where it all hinges (not ver insightful i know) but just want to revisit it for a second.
this is going to be about 1 of 3 troubled clubs getting their house in order at the right time.
Arsenal: seem to be imploding, wenger could be looking at his last games at arsenal. top players at the club may be already thinking of following nasri and fabregas out to greener pastures which will affect their belief.
Chelsea: AVB's comments about a divided squad we're very interesting. put in the mix the john terry fiasco and then the fact that they are a team of mercenaries, i think they will psychologically fold like a house of cards.
Newcastle: if they hold the course they might nick it but i cant see it.
Liverpool: hopefully we are going to catch form. great win today, final this weekend. we look the most likely to step up to the plate. fingers crossed.

Just to add to that, flames, we play Arsenal a week after the Carling Cup final. They will play Spurs this coming weekend (home), but sadly have their deciding CL game the mid-week after playing us (rather than before). So the pressure is all on them, and they lost pretty badly yesterday - so no more trophies AGAIN.
If Spurs beat them, we win the Carling Cup, and use that as momentum to beat the gunners, we'll be within a point of them with our game vs Everton (home) in hand.
Newcastle should come unstuck against the top sides again in this half of the season - they are very good against the bottom half sides though, so we can't count them out.
Chelsea definitely has dressing room issues, and I wouldn't be surprised if Terry and Lampard are the cause. Chelsea will not be a top 4 side until those 2 are gone, quite frankly, but never say never, yeah? We don't play them until right at the end of the season, so let's concentrate on getting ourselves into a position where the result against them won't matter and we'll be in prime position for 4th.
Our problem is that we desperately need to play better at home - hopefully today, with SG ranging forward and Suarez making holes will start to give us the momentum we need - because we need it fast, and we need it to last.

Me neither - lots of work left, but it's fairly clear that or main rivals for 4th (Chelsea, Arsenal) have at least as many troubles as we, but we live in hope of silverware.
Newcastle - I don't want to shout them down, but that 5-0 last weekend won't be easily forgotten.

i agree with flames. the run in "ON PAPER" looks ok. we need to be the team that wants it most and start turning all these chances in to more goals. fingers crossed we could end up winning 2 cup finals and 4th place. i think we would have taken that at the begining of the season.
dont be an hater, take the banter!

Easy now, let's take it one game at the time!
If we don't focus it could as easily end up with no cups won and a 7:th place in the league.
I too certainly hope we make it 2 cups and a 4:th place though!

Yes the door is slightly open with our competitors in all sorts of trouble, todays performance could well be a rock we can build on, so much more energy all round the pitch and great to see Carroll starting to come good at this critical stage also. It will all depend on how much the players want a CL place, including the two cups, but it's there for us if we want it enough.
