Downing has been 100% Garbage. At least Adam and Carroll have shown some flashes here and there. Downing has been our worst regular player by far and away. lets be fair he has shown flashes but disappears quicker than Mr Benn in nearly all the games. I was probably expecting him to be the biggest success being a regular prem player, england caps, dedicated pro and possess some decent quality. However he has been poor and probably the worst of the bunch considering the above. +1. Here's an example of how you can make a criticism fairly. Some people could do with taking note. Downing has shown glimpses of his talent, and has had some good games for us. Recently in one of the games (think it may have been one of the cup games against United or City) I thought he played excellent both in an attacking sense and a defensive sense. It was one of the best games I've seen him play in a red shirt. He was dropped then and after getting back into the side in the last game against United, he offered absolutely nothing to the team on the day whatsoever. The think that irked me was him shaking his head and effing and blinding out of him as he came off the pitch. He was taken off cos he did f*cking nothing. Play a great match and get hooked off, then you can be disgruntled. I hate seeing players getting p*ssed off when they're hooked off for playing sh*t. I've given the lad a chance, but I just don't see it. KRG is right: while others have shown flashes (Adam, Carroll) or improvement (Henderson), Downing is still the same awful winger that we overpaid for by about 200%. I can't recall a single time this season that he's made me think "Oh yeah, £20 million was a bargain" or even "Oh yeah, £20 million was not highway robbery." He's now been given a chance on both wings, and has disappointed on both. His left foot, which was supposed to provide a steady supply of balls to Carroll's noggin, has instead been providing a steady supply of balls to fullbacks' kneecaps. He can barely get his crosses off the ground, let alone into the penalty area. He has the pace of Charlie Adam, the workrate of Ryan Babel, and the right foot of Ferenc Puskas (who had a left foot like a traction engine, but was famously one-footed. His most famous quote: "If you kick with both feet, you fall on your ar$e."). If he only cost £7 million and was sitting on our bench, I wouldn't care, but he cost nearly three times that amount and is depriving talented players like Sterling of genuine chances.

Anybody who thinks Downing is a footballer does'nt know football, the feller should be arrested for impersonating a footballer. I never rated him at Boro and you have to hold the person who spent so much money for him accountable too, I thought Reira and the dredful Kewell were awful before this feller came along and he cost the most.

Bring Riera back. He was actually a decent player, and I can't understand why Roy sold him when he didn't need to. So stupid!

Downing is literally embarrassing, the guy has absolutely ZERO heart. I'd bet the mortgage that this guy is a whiney little b*tch.
I just can't understand it. If I were him, I'd be absolutely busting my balls to prove everyone wrong (and may even be contemplating suicide ffs). This guy is given the opportunity of a lifetime to make a real name for himself. However, he seems happy just to give 50% and collect his paycheck, a bad example for the youngsters. Relegate him to the reserves, f*ckin schmuck this guy.

But the sad thing is that I think you're 100 % spot on! What have we done with our transfer funds of 2011? Depressing and I doubt we'll see a kitty of that size anymore in the near future, which will probably sentence us to mid table mediocrity for years to come!

And if I recall it was while he was playing regularly that we scored the most goals in the league. Can't of been that bad could he?

And if I recall it was while he was playing regularly that we scored the most goals in the league. Can't of been that bad could he? Depends how you look at those stats. He had 40 starting appearances, came on 7 times as a sub, but only scored 5 goals in all competitions that season, when the club scored more than 100. He had fewer assists - 4. Considering Lucas scored 3 with 3 assists (having played 600 minutes less), and Aurelio 3 with 6 assists, Reira really wasn't all that involved in our season despite playing only 150 minutes less than Torres. Most of our goals that season came through the middle/right - Gerrard (24), Torres (17), Kuyt (15), Yossi (9), Alonso (5), Lucas (3), N'Gog (3).

Downing has obviously been a massive failure up to this point. There is no argument to be had. He has been woeful so far.
Henderson a bit more up for debate I grant you, but if we are being honest any praise we give him is cause we are desperate to think he wasnt another complete waste of money. He is young tho so hopefully will improve (needs to a lot).
Carroll, well hes been a laughing stock, and he's getting accolades cause he doesn't give the ball away as much and he's running more. Sorry but I expect a lot more still. I'll give him his dues he has been better, he's picking it up a bit, but if he plays like this for the rest of the time he is still a complete failure.
Adam, I don't understand the criticism? For 7 million I think hes been brilliant.
