It's becoming clear that some of the players we brought in the window are a little bit average. And we spent a bit of cast too. So my question is, for all the people out there who bag them, and wonder why we got them, who do you realistically think we could have got?

I would have gone for:

LW Andres Guardado. Deportivo were relegated, and he might have been fairly cheap. He's a great player.

CM Diego. He went to Athletico on loan, and sure would be much better than Adam, especially for creativity. Sure we could have got him for fairly cheap if they were willing to loan him out.

Seems it's taking a while for the team to click.

Adam has probably been the biggest disappointment for me. I had such high hopes that he was going to batter every team, virtually on his own, bit like he did to us last season.
What an absolute and nearly total miserable fail he's turned out to be for us.

Downing and Adam have been poor they just haven't settled in and shown last season's form which is a big shame I never really rated Adam but i do downing and i thought he would be a star for us but how wrong I was but there is still plenty of time to be hero's and get us 4th spot keep the Faith lads.

We should have gone harder for Seb larsson, he would have been free and better quality than Downing... good for the short term!

The reason we didn't move for Diego is the same reason many clubs opted not to move for him, he has a bad reputation as a trouble maker and is known to upset the dressing room quite often, glad we didn't go for him. I know many dont rate Adam that much, but he does have the highest number of shot assists in our team and guess who is after him in the ranking? Yep, Stewart Downing, as miserable as he has seemed, Downing has had 41 shot assists so far, just behind Adam with 48...and following him is another player criticised very often this season, Dirk Kuyt with 25...A surprising fact though is that Kuyt has had the highest percentage of succesful crosses in our team.

As far as Adam is concerned, he hasn't been scoring like we know he can but he has really stepped up in the defensive aspect, where he is second only to Lucas with 55 tackles, 34 clearances and 9 blocks. Lucas has 68 tackles.

One statistic which is however particularly nice to see is that wee man Jay Spearing has the highest percentage of tackles won, 88.9%...that is a huge percentage no matter who the player in question is. Following him in percentages is Jordan Henderson with 88.1% tackles won. To put that in perspective, our beloved Lucas has 76.5% tackles won and Gerrard 72.2%. Perhaps Jay needs to start more often. I think our new players have done ok and will take some time to gel but will be a force to be reckoned with in the next couple of seasons if we have STABILITY in the club at the managerial level.

...and a right footer playing on right wing.

Downing is a left footer playing on the left wing as you know!

However, Seb Larsson is a good player to have in your team. About the same range of skills as Rory Delap, but on the free kick and corner department.

Sorry mate, but he's clearly not LFC material (not even for short term purposes) - if we're aiming at becoming a top team that is!

Yes exactly mate who would have thought 3 years ago that we would be missing Lucas so badly . Just goes to show what hard work and will can do for any player I was one of Lucas's biggest haters but now is probably my favorite player i admire him so much for how after all the stick he got he kept going and thought no bollox I will prove how good I am you can't train that and if you have a player with that belief you cannot let that go a massive credit and role model to any young player and LFC.

Funny, I always liked Lucas even in the early days. You could see...well I could... that he was trying SO hard to please, often with disatrous results, granted.

I understand comparing Downing/Adam with Lucas and saying,"well look where Lucas was two years ago!" but it's really not the same. The difference is the desire and determination to improve and get to a level that is LFC quality. I don't know if Downing or Adam have that desire. I fear they see moving to LFC as the height of their career and won't try and prove the critics wrong like Lucas. Hopefully I'm wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time.
