going to match on monday with a few friends one of whom is black and we were talking about suarez return and friend says he really hope he isn't given a hero type reception because it would feel it would be very inappropriate and I agree its a tricky one but I'm sure many people will have mix feelings

He will be given a great reception because he is a fantastic player who has been missed, not because he supposedly done something unsavoury,he has done his time, lets move on.

I think you need to prepare your friend to expect that Suarez will be given a hero's welcome. But it won't be a sign of support for what he said. That's the unfortunate thing in all this - what he said, albeit perhaps ignorantly, was inappropriate but the way it was blown out of proportion meant that the focus shifted away from it.

The welcome he gets will be a sign of support for someone who we believe was treated grossly unfairly, and show of happiness/relief for getting our star performer back.

There's no way LFC as a club is racist or supports racism. Of course there may be some fans or even individuals at the club who are, but that's a reflection of the country as a whole. The vast majority, including of most of those who will cheer Suarez on Monday, I believe are not racist. Please try and convey this to your friend. He should in no way feel that the cheers are a sign of anything sinister.

you know what they say... 'don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!'

journalism, politics, business ... even ethics in sport including in the olympics.... it all seems to have gone to pot.

The idealism of years gone by has been replaced by the stark realism that self interest still rules with principles cast aside in the pursuit of personal gain even if it's based on a lie and/or at the expense of others.
