I am reading some of the posts on here after our wonderful qualification to Wembley and are quite rightly dismayed by some of the responses and if am being honest my worst fears of coming home to roost by the sounds.

As I have said it's very nice getting to Wembley for the first time in 16 years and we now have a real chance of getting our hands on our first piece of silverware in six long years. My problem now is that there seems to people on here mellowing to the mess Dalglish has made this season just because he has got us to this final and this is wrong on so many levels.
We need to keep up this pressure on the owners to do the right thing in the summer and releive this man from his duties otherwise we are set for another season of mid-table mediocrity after probably wasting another 70-100 million pounds on more rubbish.
What people are forgeting is we are still exactly the same team with same players who was completely outplayed by Bolton Wanderers the very seem team with the worst home record in all divisions less than four days earlier. We also have the very same manager who named a team at home to Stoke City with no forward player in it and three centre halfs to mark Peter Crouch.

One of the worst things about winning a Cup is as much as it feels good it can also work against you and be a millstone around the Clubs neck, this is what happend with Istanbul, the Club never built on that in the Right Way and the fans expectation levels rose to the point they now have ideas of grandua, Our Souvenir Shop was'nt even open the day after Istanbul which says it all, If it was United they would of been printing tee shirts through the night celebrating there success.

All I want is for fans to be fair, we are all happy to be at Wembley and hopefuly we will win the Cup, but lets not let it cloud our judgement to the point it harms the Club, we need to judge this manager on the true yard stick which is the league not in any Cup competition. Our owner John Henry has publicaly stated at the start of the season 4th is our minimun and I am quite happy to go along with that, if we qualify for the Champions League then great Dalglish should remain, if he does'nt then fairs, fair no Wembley final of Carling Cup win should save him.

We finished Rafa's last season in 7th without any silverware since 2006. We finished 6th in the league last year without a trophy in 5 years. If we finish 5th with a cup, whether it's where we want to be, that is progress. Hell, even finishing 6th with a trophy would be progress. I know we want top 4, and the owners are right to declare that as our goal, but he is rebuilding a club that was absolutely sinking before he took the helm. If we finished 5th this year with a league cup trophy I would be happy with what Kenny is doing and want him for another season.

Last season we finished 4 points behind Spurs, in the Summer we spent 59 million pound and Spurs spent 10 million pound, Spurs are challenging for the title even tho I dont think they will win it or finish in the top 2 but are still on corse to finish 20 odd points ahead of us, how are we progressing again...

Is 5th higher than 6th? Is a trophy better than no trophy? I'm not talking about Spurs, I'm talking about league position and trophies.

I think it's more important winning a trophy than finishing fourth myself, but if you are going on judging how good or bad we are, how far we have or not come e.t.c. then you always go with how you do in the League and how far behind the Champions you finish, thats the real barometer. If you want to judge how well a manager is doing short term I think the Spurs point is a good one, we were just four points behind them last season and now they are at a completely different from us now and we have spent 60 million pound or so more in so called strenghthening our team, this summs up perfectly how good our managers judgement on players and tactics is and the gap is widening week by week.

No, it doesn't. How they have progressed is irrelevant to the way we have progressed. If we finish 5th with a trophy, we are a position higher in the table, we have European football, and we have a trophy. It also means our squad is the 5th best in the country and not the 6th best.

Going into next summer we would be building on the 5th best squad in the country, making it easier to turn it into the 4th best for the season to come. Then the next season we build on that. It's been stated it's a 3 year project. I would personally be happy seeing us finish 5th with a trophy and in 3 years seeing us in 2nd challenging for the title. Forward motion is forward motion, and so long as we move forward (regardless as to who drops below us or moves above us) and we finish even one place higher every year, I can be content with that.

Does that mean that we shouldn't strive with everything we have for top 4? Of course not. But not recognizing progress simply because we aren't where we want to be yet is not fair to the players, the owners, or to Kenny Dalglish.
