Big news more or less is Mancs have no defenders more or less, Ferdinand is touch and go so is Jones. Carrisk and Rooney are to have fitness tests and Nani is to miss the game.

This means they can't park the bus like they did in the league game cause simpley they don't have Jones to play dm.

With this in mind expect
De Gea
Rafeal Smalling Evans Evra
Valencia Anderson Carrick Giggs
Rooney Welbeck

For lfc not fitness probs so normal back 4 maybe Kelly in for Johnson just to rest a few players for Wolves midweek.
Bellamy won't start.

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Kuyt Gerrard Adam Downing
Gerrard Carroll

Without any real aerial prowess in their defence the fact Downing against City seemed to finally step it up a gear and beat his man on the few occasions he tried and put great crosses in that Carroll would have won had he played. Simpley if it's Downing against anyone bar Valencia he can beat that player playing rb for the Mancs.

My only worry is that I think playing this team more or less for 3 games in under a week may affect us with regards to injuries and fitness in this crucial period of 8 games coming up with the final being the last of the 8.

This United side is not the United of old, but they haven't forgotten how to win, and Fergie hasn't forgotten how to get the best out of them when the chips are down. This FA Cup game will be huge and they didn't have to play mid-week, which against any other club would probably cancel out home ground advantage.

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Johnson Gerrard Adam Downing
Kuyt Carroll

or (even though I think Carroll is unsuited to 4-2-3-1)

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Gerrard Adam
Kuyt Henderson Downing
Carroll

Bring on Bellamy for Carroll at 60 mins, and Johnson for Kuyt.

Ultimately though it doesn't matter who we play - if we put 9 men behind the ball we won't progress. Unless we set out to attack them like we did against City we won't get the result we want.

I agree that they haven't forgotten how to win, but the players they have these days are much more likely to shrink in the atmosphere they will encounter this Saturday.
While I will never underestimate the mancs, I will happily take playing against any midfield that contains Carrick, Anderson and "sympathy vote" Giggs. Big Jan is more mobile than those 3 NOW!!!

Get a goal up and can`t see them coming back, they are more reliant on youngsters than they have been for a long time. Older players are nowhere near as good as they were but are able to lift themselves for the odd game. Generally the Scum are getting weaker each year so we need to keep them going downwards.

I was talking to a United fan last night and he said Smalling is injured too(??). He said they have no centre backs fit at all. Don't forget they have Scholes back now. He may be old, but he probably still adds more than Anderson and Carrick! Looking forward to it!

My worry is we play well then rubbish, well then rubbish. We played well on Wednesday so we are due a downer. Mind you its set up for Carroll you can forgive anything if you score against Utd so it might get him back on track although I am starting to completely give up on him.

We were rubbish against Stoke and Bolton, so we've a good performance left in stock just for United, ha. Hopefully so anyway! If Carroll can score the winner against the Mancs then he'll be going some way to winning some fans over with that alone - it could act as a springboard for him.

I am young but I know my footy, you lot seem to be forgetting this game is at Anfield against Man utd a team which has always underperformed against us at Anfield repeatedly for the last 5-6 seasons.
Also the fact we've only had 2 bad games against a big team away at Spurs and City.

Also the fact whenever Man Utd miss Vidic they always seen to concede against any team with a good offense.

After starting the thread for the Carling Cup 2nd leg and all the negative responses for the first 3-4 pages before the match started I feel a bit like Deja Vu
