We've got to solve this problem in a way which recovers some credibility and puts a stop to the humiliation.

ideal scenario - he comes good and we're happy to keep him for a few years at least.

otherwise, we need another striker who's knocking the goals in; AC plays the odd game in which he hopefully does ok; and as soon as some club enquires about him on the basis that someone else is keeping him out of the team we let him go.

The trouble is, I'm not sure that there's anyone out there that would be dumb enough to take him. I though Newcastle was a realistic possibility, but with Ba, Cisse, Best, Ameobi, etc. they really don't need another striker. There's really no one that's both stupid enough and rich enough to buy him for £15 million. Unless we're willing to take a massive, massive loss and sell him for £5-10 million to someone like Fulham, QPR, Stoke, or Villa, he will be very tough to shift. I actually think he'd do well in the SPL, but there's no way Celtic/Rangers could afford him. Same thing with the Championship - I think he'd be OK there, but even Leicester can't throw away that kind of money. The sad thing is, we've over-priced him by so much that he's almost un-sellable. The only bit of business that would be worse than buying a Championship clogger for £35 million is selling that clogger 2 years down the line at a £30 million loss. I hope JH is willing to bite the bullet, but that's a huge loss to swallow for a successful businessman.

The thing about Carroll is because of his fee you cannot just get rid and get someone else. His resale value must be about £5m if that and you cannot write off £30m. It will be interesting to see what they do. People have been sacked for far less.

We didn't need to buy Carroll when we did as he was injured at the time and then took time to get fit (if he is even fit atm).

It was a ridiculous panic buy £35 million was a complete joke and unfortunately he will never be good enough to warrant the price.

Torres sale had nothing to do with price we paid it was just a very very very bad bit of business on our part.

We will probably be watching Commolli in court in a few years for taking a bung for paying such a stupid amount for him.

I think we're all agreed that:

a) he was way over-priced at £35million

b) if we sold him now we'd get £5m... maybe £10m if we're lucky... but we wouldn't want to do that as we'd be a bigger laughing stock on the issue than we are already

So, the only other option is to just hope that one of the following happens:

a) he comes good
b) he improves so that we can get maybe £15 to 20m for him somewhere down the line
c) he gets sold quietly somewhere down the line, i.e. we have a super dooper new striker knocking goals in and taking the limelight

I'd be happy for us to sell him at the earliest opportunity if we could get £5-£10m for him. OK, we'd lose up to £25m but the sooner he's gone the sooner we can forget about him. Also, the longer he's lingering about the place the more he's adding to the outlay. If he stays another 2-3 years, when you consider his wages and any other bonuses he could well have cost us £50m+!!!! Just think of the players that could buy......
Time to cut our losses - and maybe deduct kenny's wages!! :-)

Not to pick on you, because I understand that mentality, but that's a horrible attitude for a professional athlete to have. You always make runs. First, even if you don't get the ball, you may have dragged the defender out of position just enough to open up space for someone else. Think of the team, not just yourself and whether or not you get a couple extra touches. Second, if I'm a midfielder and I see you not making a run this time, I'll look to someone else first the next time I have the ball. When you only have a second or two to dwell on the ball like they do in the Premier League, who are you going to look to for a pass - someone like Suarez who you know is constantly moving and working to get open, or someone like Carroll, who runs when it suits him? Of course this is over-simplifying things, but it highlights some of what's wrong with Carroll. This is nothing to do with the lad's football ability - it's sheer laziness. If it hasn't been coached out of him by this point, then he's unlikely to learn it. You don't go from Ryan Babel to Dirk Kuyt (in terms of work ethic) overnight simply because you have "potential." It's an intrinsic thing - you either have it, or you don't. Andy doesn't have it, which is why I don't see him ever reaching whatever underlying potential he may have. I agree with others on here: maybe give him to the end of the season; if he hasn't scored a few goals by then, then I'm sorry but he needs to go. If we have to eat a massive loss, then so be it. He doesn't fit in at the club - not with our style of play, not with the commitment we want our players to have, not with the sense of pride we have in the red shirt.

He's not as bad as some of you are slating him.

First off, we're not playing to his strengths so don't even start the barcodes comparison. I just feel it's not a fair apple to apple comparison. He succeeded in a certain style of play and we didn't give him that, so why now blame him? Unless of course we were dumb enough to think at that time that we signed him to play like the old torres?

2nd, he's worth more than 5-10m. Most club would bite off our hands if we're willing to sell at that figure. Mark my words, he'll do very well in a mid-table club. If villa can spend 24m on darren bent, they'll be happy to spend 15-20m on carroll.

The same person who decided to pay Villa £20m for Downing (when N'Zogbia was available for half that) and Sunderland more or less the same for Jordan Henderson

In my humble opinion that person is Comoli - which begs further question of his appointment
