One of the best young talents emerging on the European stage. Markovic has all the hallmarks of a young Michael Owen.

He is fast, skilful and direct. Most importantly he also knows where the goal is.

Markovic expressed a desire to join Chelsea and they have certainly shown interest but they need a striker who can come in now with pressure increasing on Andre Villas-Boas.

That has allowed Liverpool to step into negotiations and they will look to wrap up a deal.

However, the price will be around £8million and the deal is more likely to be agreed now but put on ice until the summer.

Markovic only made his debut last May but has scored six goals in 16 games this season and is on the brink of a national team call-up.

Liverpool have joined the race for Dijon midfielder Benjamin Corgnet, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The 24-year-old who was playing amateur football two years ago, has already attracted the interest of Lyon and Newcastle United, with the pair consistently linked with the midfielder.

But now Liverpool are taking a close interest in Corgnet and have had the Thionville native watched several times recently.

The Reds Director of Football Damien Comolli is well aware of the player's rise up the French football pyramid and has taken note of his impressive feats in Ligue 1 with newly promoted Dijon this season.

Corgnet has regularly been amongst the goals in the current campaign, notching seven in Ligue 1 from 18 games.

anyone heard of any of those players coz i havent. i like the sound of Markovic but was a bit put of when they said his like owen in regards to skills, when has owen every been skilful?

You're judgement worries me slightly if you really believe Cahill is an exceptional player...


is he not going to end up at a top four club? or top six at least?

if he's good enough for chelsea/united then surely he must be good enough for us. the starting england centre halves are all ageing. he's gonna be a regular in the next few years providing he's playing week in week out. gary cahill is a quality centre half imo

Hey Suso, yep, I have heard of Lazar Markovic, as a matter of fact he plays for my local team, Partizan Belgrade. The boy definately has skill and bags of potential, but again, he is one for the future, not a solution to any of our problems at the moment.

He plays in the Serbian superleague which tbh is anything but super, so it's not really difficult to be a goalscorer here. You can see the kid has a spark about him though and his finishing is 2nd to none at the moment. I think he would be a good buy but I don't exect him to be available for less than 6-8 million, which puts me off..

Im not trying to sound cynical and depressed, however if we are to challenge for the 4th place, we need to sign some players.

KD/comolli are keeping their cards close to their chest, in regards to who they r scouting or who they wish to sign..... if anyone.

i got this feeling, within 48hrs of the transfer window closing, LFC will be linked with every tom, dick n abdul and messi, ronaldo etc etc

Talk about Loïc Rémy popping up again, after we were strongly linked with him the summer before last.

He's been linked with Spurs but Koptalk are saying that his agent has been on Merseyside. 26 goals in 63 games since moving to Marseille. Not a bad record, but I'm always wary of players from the French league. We'll see if anything comes of it anyway.
