I suppose its a personal thing for everyone but for me i have an always will be emotionally attached so i cant ever see myself losing interest, however there will be some who like myself have been priced out of going to the match and that will have a major impact on new generation supporters,it may be a case of not being able to afford to go meaning no attachment at all or at least a distant ,longing to attend type relationship with the club,so who knows how shallow or how deep that affection goes? this as you can imagine changes the relationship the club has with community too, if there's no connection there's no loyalty, perhaps? Ive rushed this reply abit but hope it helps!? cheers mate I think a lot of people will always feel emotionally connected to the club, but the number of people who say, "I don't really follow football anymore, theres just too much money in it now, its not what it used to be." this response is becoming more and more frequent!! people are becoming bitter due to players earning £200,000 per week, and ticket prices are going up while the rest of the world is going through a recession!! in the 70's and 80's and to some extent the 90's, players interacted with the fans a lot more and wernt as cut off as the current players are now!! I think the retirment of Carra then Stevia will further push club away from fans, there has always been real identity with players through having local hero's. Smithy,Thomo, Aldo, mcMahon, Macca, Fowler, Owen(less extent) were seen as our own and this kept a link. The Torres saga last year seriously damaged fans faith in hero worship for those coming in from outside and tht link between players and fans is not the same, his comments on the back of a 'I Love you' book hurt more than we realise. Alot of fans(generally) are moving away from football, look at the empty grounds for the FA cup. That never used to happen 10yrs ago.

Money does have a tendancy to suck the soul out of things.
Foreign billionaires using clubs as playthings doesn't help. That and players becoming mercanaries takes some of the meaning out.
I'll always follow football and feel close to the club, maybe not so much the players, but I think they'll always be local, ish, players and passion from home grown talent that gives you that added inspiration.

I think that biggest swing in terms of support/affiliation/connectivity will come from those close to the club geographically as the changes will be more obvious and relevant to them. I live too far away from the club to feasibly visit on a regular basis and whilst I am aware of big changes in recent years, none have really effected me. Issues such as pricing, merchandising, ticket allocation, ticket availability may well be the bones of contention for a lot of people and an issue for their support so it might be best to ask more locally to get a better feel for how recent changes have impacted the fans' support.
