I know that since his arrival at the club downing has failed to perform for us. However, in the Blackburn game I believe he was our best player. Even though he was playing on the right, which I personally don't like him doing, he provided crosses for Caroll, also helped out defensively and for the first time in a while was actually prepared to go round his marker. If only he had been playing on the left I feel he could have supplied a lot more accurate crosses and possibly have created a goal or two.

Downing is showing exactly why so many Liverpool fans thought 20 million was a joke of a price.
8 million at the most, he has not done anything in the first half of the season to warrant such a ridiculous price tag, I think he was purchased because we missed out on Young.
If Commolli was so influential at Spurs when they recruited the top players they now have why are we ending with overpriced british players.
We need to be looking abroad because buying British is not working.
20 million spent on Downing would have bought a much better winger on the continent, I would go as far as to say I'd have rather paid 8 million for N'Zogbia

Downing is the type of player who gets managers sacked, lets hope this proves true in this case

He had one of his better games today at one point the kop was singing "there's only one Stuart Downing" which is very true.

I was pretty happy with him today, both Downing and Carroll for that matter. Hendo and Adam in the middle were the problem for me today. No urgency, no control or dictation of play. When Stevie came on, we looked a different team, but still cannot bloody finish. We need a clinical striker come january.

But the mob have got it in for Downing just like they had it in for Skrtel, just like they had it in for Lucas. If we just do the opposite of what the mob think, we're guaranteed to get top 4 :p
completely agree that people just want to hate on Downing, Skrtel was copping it and then we started keeping clean sheets so the mob turned on Downing. I didn't think he was our best yesterday but he surely was as dire as people are making out. Big Andy was not always in the best position for crosses and little Luis got a few headers on goal. We need more World class players to compete. Not just bang on about how bad the ones we have are.
