i really do hope that we will invest in january. we'll certainly need it if we're gonna push for a top 4 spot.

im beginning to get some doubts though about kenny's and comolli's ability to take the right decisions on the transfer market. 35m for a striker that gets 4 minutes here and there...there's simply no words to describe it. i'm still one of few though who's got belief in andy but he needs to play on a regular basis. 16m for hendo and 19m for downing is two other deals that there should be high questionsmarks over.

will the owners be willing to give kenny and comolli more money to spend in january? i certainly hope so but i would understand if thy're beginning to get a bit worried on what kind of players the money is spent on..

a real proven world class striker and a creative midfielder/winger should be the priority. i just hope we can find some who's willing to join us ahead of other clubs...

I wouldn't be too worried...I think we will invest some more and i still have faith in Andy. The thing with Andy is that we are playing a different style of football to what he was used to. I don't think Andy was worth the 35 mil but I think he could be worth a lot more than that in the future. He has everything going for him as far as his physical attributes are concerned.

i'm a bit worried though. those 3 deals i mentioned doesn't fill me with too much hope that we will be making any great deals in january. but hopefully im totally wrong and the 3 players mentioned will hopefully make a much bigger impact during the next year as well.

A fair post, though I'm fairly happy with Downing and Henderson.

The thing is we're purchasing for value and talent, not just talent. Henderson cost around 15-20m. Seems excessive, but really, all he has to do is have a half decent season and at his age, he'll be worth 15-20m. So it's not viewed as a loss. Downing is a bit older, but I'm confident someone would buy him for over 10m any time we want. Again a decent season and he's not lost any value. Carroll has lost a lot of value. What's he worth now at a guess? 10-15m?

I dont' think the owners will be worried about spending when the value is going to still be there, but I think they will worry about making any more crazy Kenny signings like Carroll.

To be honest, I reckon the decision to spend £35m on Carroll was more the owners' decision than Kenny/Comolli's.

Let's look at it - deadline day on the first transfer window of the new owners' reign - after the previous disasterous owners' reign, where they were eventually run out of the club amidst protest after protest from angry fans. We're losing our top asset, with the club pocketing £50m from his sale - who has the most to gain from splashing £35m on a new replacement striker - and who has the most to lose from failure to do so?

At the time, the owners got the credit for putting the money forward for him, and now that things are going bad with Carroll, the manager is getting the flak for it. How does that work??

i see what you mean bar but i doubt that two americans who was very new to football identified carroll or any other of our new signings as targets. they might have pushed for a deal but it was most certainly kenny and comolli who indentified him as our main target that day back in january.

I don't doubt that it was they who identified the player, but Newcastle held Liverpool ransom, and FSG obviously gave them the blessing to get their man at whatever cost - or as Kenny/Comolli have said before, they had decided that they wanted the difference between that fee and the Torres fee to be at least £15m.
