Just read this retweeted on Twitter by Anfield Index:

(1/3) On current form, if Stewart Downing plays the same number of mins this season as he did last season, then he will create 95 chances...

(2/3)... which would be 11 more than last year (via@EPLIndex) #PlayingWell?

(3/3) 95 last year would have put him second in the league for chances created. He might be doing better than you think.

Maybe a bit of food for thought for some people here.

statistic , statstics and bloody lies now yes those number might be true but he isnt playing well and is not doing enough , you dont need statistic to see that , just watching spurs whipping crosses in both sides putting stokes defence under real pressure and downing doesnt do half of that sadly .

My opinions are based on being at the game. That said I sometimes think you see more on TV.

Ok so we have a quote that Spurs are banging in crosses left right and centre. How many real clear cut chances did they create from the two wingers they have? Seeing as Downing is only ONE winger not two, and one or two great chances form him is not enough, then that means Spurs wingers must have created at least 3 great chances each. So Spurs must have created 6 or 7 great chances for their forwards with all these great crosses, right? And that doesn't include the other chances they got form players other than wingers.

Oh look, they scored one goal, and it was from a penalty. They must have the most wasteful strikers in the league! Oh wait again, that's us isn't it?

There's not a bit of sense coming from you. It's just BS.

Downing can do better, for sure, I've seen him play better, but the misunderstanding about this player from some fans amazes me. It's Lucas all over again. Or maybe even Skrtel all over again.

Your gut is that he isn't good enough, which is fine. But don't make up nonsense expecting him to create 3 assists or more a game or something like that. Downing has been let down by others poor finishing just as much as we all have.[/quote] is downing and better or any worse than albert reira i dont think so and he wasnt good enough .

Glad you said that, Faz, cos just right now, Anfield Index have just retweeted more stats comparing Stewart Downing to Albert Riera:

OK so some tweets coming up to compare RIera (08/09) with Downing (11/12) for @WeeRedDog #LFC

Cross Completion: AR 19%, SD 25% | Mins Per Completed Cross: AR 95, SD 47 | Mins per Chance Created: AR 58, SD 36 #LFC

Attacking Half Pass Completion: AR 67%, SD 72% | Touches per Minute: AR 0.77, SD 0.70 | Mins per completed dribble: AR 37, SD 127 #LFC

So that's 6 key metrics for wide players and Downing wins 4-2 including 3 most important ones. #LFC

And considering Riera was in the best #LFC side for 20 years they can only paint Downing in a good light. #LFC

*waits for faz to spout on about stats meaning nothing*
