early reports dont look good for lucas leiva with some reports saying he could be out for up to 6 months. a very costly mistake was made last night in playing him as he is one of our most important players, we need this guy in the league not the carling cup and playing him in this mediocre competition last night is gonna hurt our league campaign badly. some on here protested that we should have had a full strenght team out last night. i was of the opposite opinion as you just CANT play 2 top level games in 48 hours. its all well and good winning the carling cup but if we dont get 4th this year we are screwed pure and simple. lucas being out for any substantial amount of time is gonna hurt us badly, and it was a stupid decision to play him.

Leave it out, it can happen to anyone at anytime. Lucas helped us win that game last night, without him who knows, we may or may not have won the game. These things happen in football and we all know that he will be a huge loss because he is our player of the year but its just ridiculous to call it a "mistake"
I never finish anythi

just get over it...
unfortunately these things happen. if kenny would have played a couple more youngsters like flanno and robinson etc and we'd end up losing the game then he'd get criticised for that reason instead. some people never get happy but you can't have it both ways...
yes it's very bad news if he's out for long but lets just hope these rumours about being out for 6 months turns out to be incorrect.

Where have you heard this news on his injury?
That job interview was going so well until I realized I was fukked up on acid in the middle of a cornfield naked and talking to a scarecrow.

Don't think it was a mistake. He could hurt himself in the warm-up for any training session or match, but only now, when his selection disagrees with your opinion, was it a mistake.
I think a great many will disagree that his selection was a mistake anyway - he bossed their midfield, but they had a lot more freedom after he was subbed and that wasn't because Chelsea suddenly lifted their game. There's a chance that we would not have had the ammunition to take the lead, but in the end they looked flaccid instead, were well beaten, and that may hurt them significantly more than just an isolated loss. How will they feel about coming to Anfield later in the year having lost two at home this season, on the back of our double over them last season? Anything that causes our rivals to slip or lose confidence is to our benefit, though the price we've paid is high. All we can do is hope Lucas recovers quickly, and that our defense stands firm in his absence. We are coming up against a number of clubs who should not stretch us, so now is the time to stop firing blanks. Full speed ahead, and damn the torpedoes.

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous threads i have ever seen....That is my opinion...His injury had nothing to do with him playing 2 games in a short space of time but with a tackle...It could happen to any player at any given time regardless of the number of games they played in a certain time frame. If he is out, he will be missed but in my opinion, going out with a strong squad last night was a great piece of management! Calling the carling cup mediocre is also a bit pointless, if we are in it, we are in it to win it!!
The worst possible thing that could have happened last night is that we went in with a very weak squad and got beaten. It would have a very detrimental effect on the squad and club as a whole! We needed a win and did what we had to do! All praise should be given to management and the players who gave their all!

Afternoon Guys
First post on here so hope to not get shot down in flames, lol!
I believe Jay Spearing will be able to hold his own if Lucas is injured for any serious amount of time. Yes it will be a blow to lose him as he has become an absolute monster in the middle for us. However we have Gerrard to come back, Spearing is there and lets not forget that Henderson is a central midfield player. Perhaps this could be his chance to show the form that prompted us to buy him.
On the positive side, I thought last night's team showed the strength of the squad, I do honestly believe we are an out and out goalscorer and another winger away from being a real force once again.

We needed a win and did what we had to do! All praise should be given to management and the players who gave their all! Correct. Consider what is happening at Stamford Bridge by contrast. More question marks over AVB, more trouble in the squad, more pressure on Torres, lower morale, Drogba won't sign a new contract etc. They could easily struggle for points in some games between now and the New Year. This win wasn't just for us to progress in the Carling Cup, it was also a mental blow against one of our rivals for 4th (a rival currently 2 points ahead of us, I might add, who must now travel to Newcastle on the back of 3 losses in their last 4 fixtures, and then onto their date with the Europa League if they lose again in midweek). Had we put out such a weak side we'd be lambasted for not having the fortitude for 4th if we can't handle a single extra fixture. Instead morale is high, and that might be enough to hold us together for the next period, might be enough to turn those 1-1s into 2-1 wins.
