I went to Pepe Reina's book signing the other day in Liverpool and joined the 150+ strong queue at Waterstones. Finally got to the see the man himself as he signed book after book. Didnt get the chance to speak to him but I said thanks for him signing my book and headed on. He didnt seem to be too interested in talking to the fans but in fairness to the man he probably wanted to sign as many books as he could and not leave anyone dissapointed.
Then I headed on to another branch where another LFC legend was doing a signing: Ian Callaghan. As you probably know he has made the most apperances in an LFC shirt (Carra is 2nd in the list). I turned up early expecting a load of people to come down from the Reina signing. Only FIVE people were in the queue. Anywho I got to have a chat with the man himself who was a total gentleman and showed great interest in the people that came to see him.
From the two events I found it a little sad that the fans weren't showing up in droves to meet a great legend of the club. I understand why the current team will always draw more crowds. Pepe Reina is no doubt a modern legend and will be up there with the many greats who played at the club. But people can easily forget the players of the past who didnt earn hundreds of thousands per week, played for the Liverbird through thick and thin and helped make LFC into what it is today.
Here's a clip of the man in action:
