I don't see how I can respect a man who hates me. Bacon face hates LFC and therefore its fans. So this “respect his achievements” for any LFC fan is moot point.

If Dalglish has 25 years like Ferguson has had none of us will be complaining. In the 1980’s when we were at the top and they were where we are now Fergie made his famous knock Liverpool off their perch statement. It was for the press he admired Liverpool and looked and learnt. In 2011 when the situation is now reversed we would do well to look and learn ourselves. The other thing I would say is Utd’s success has not just been Fergie back then our turnover was roughly the same or slightly better than Utd. Now they are a massive ground, turnover light years ahead of us and a better commercial product. Something we might care to reflect on. Making stupid comments like whisky nose are fine but it won’t progress this club which I presume is what we all want ?

We'll always disagree on this I think. To me, it matters how you do things almost as much as what you do. In my opinion, Fergie crosses the line too often. It may be good for those who believe in a 'win at all costs' approach. But to me football is bigger than just your own team winning trophies any way it can.
Anyway, a couple of things:
- as i understand it the perch statement is more myth than reality. If it was said as early as 1986, then it wasn't a statement of an intent to overtake LFCs tally of league titles. Just another foul mouthed utterance from Fergie. The other theory was that it was a statement made much later when Fergie stated that his greatest achivement had been to knock etc... Since then the united loving, fergie fearing media has peddled the myth the Fergie made a bold statement at the outset.
- and as for Benitez, he was aggressive and confrontational IN DEFENCE of the club against fergie, his sidekicks (allardyce et al), mourinho etc. I don't recall any incidence of Benitez swearing, bullying, intimidating referees etc. He may have been irritating sometimes and made mistakes... but never did he cross the line.
Of course if Dalglish had 25 years at the helm and got the same results we'd be happy. Even if Roy or Rafa achieved it we'd be happy. But am i looking back wishing that we appointed Fergie after Fagan instead of Dalglish? er... no thanks...
I'd rather have a barren period under people whose character I respect, whom I'm happy to be associated with, who I am happy to have as an example to the younger generation ... rather than trophies under boorish managers who disrepect and abuse anyone and everyone who doesn't fall in to line with their agenda.

Mightly LFC we would not have been so mighty in the past had we adopted your stance of accepting second best for the advantage of having some sort of saintly manager. As I have said before our two best managers ever Paisley and Shankly were both very proficient at mind games and were totally ruthless with players as Ferguson is. Why do you think Paisley and Shankly were so great through being nice? Is that really what you think? As for Benitez speaking on behalf of the club what is Ferguson doing then? Also I don’t agree with your assessment of Benitez motivation. He has had three top jobs Inter Milan, Liverpool and Valencia. On each occasion he has caused trouble with the club’s board often acting in a very unprofessional manner (the silly I am a coach farce springs to mind). His motivation on all those three occasions was his own career and power within the club as far as I could see. I feel you hate Ferguson MLFC and fair play no self respecting Liverpool fan should do otherwise. But there are times in life when you just need to hold your hands up. This is one of those occasions and like I said above if Dalglish learns from Ferguson as he learnt from us in the 1980’s then we will be stronger because of it. I feel Kenny’s statements this week directed to the players are along this road and will be good for the club and team.

Stanley, I agree to a large extent - nice guys aren't always winners - Roy Evans as manager perhaps being the classic example.
I think it's about pushing something right to the edge without going over a boundary. Yes, Paisley and Shankly were ruthless in making footballing decisions. But I never heard of them abusing referees, journalists, fellow managers on a consistent basis if at all.
All I'm saying is that Fergie has pushed the limit and gone beyond it at times in a manner which leaves a sour taste. Paisley and Shankly never did, but still managed to win.
As for Benitez's motivations - that's not the point here. So for the sake of the debate, let's say you are right about his motivations. Did he then behave in an insulting, abusive, intimidatory manner towards others? I think not. (If he did, he's wrong too. Anyway, this thread's abour Fergie)
I absolutely DO NOT HATE man u or Fergie. I may not like the way they come across in contrats to the the way I like everything about LFC, but I don't let it become hate. I hold my hands up to the way Fergie has won things year in year out, rebuilding teams etc... but I just don't like the way he's gone about it - and I don't respect it. That's all. It's nothing bitter - just an opinion based on my values, preferences, observations and interpretation.
I don't like the hate that exists between what I'd describe as neanderthal elements of support on both sides.
My perception of Gary Neville changes for the better every time I see him on Sky. I wouldn't allow this to happen if I hated everything man u.
He once openly expressed his hatred for Liverpool both on tv and in an article in the times if i remember correctly. And my feeling is that a sporting dislike is fine, but hatred is going too far.
He's in a very powerful post now. I hope one day he takes the opportunity to find a way of diffusing the hatred between elements of the two clubs.

What has one got to do with the other? You're being childish.
