On the contrary, Rafa is only misunderstood by those who refuse to try understand him.

Outside the relatively small "I love Rafa" camp, his supporters largely understand his flawed character and that his on-field exploits largely masked growing unease behind the scenes during the H&G years. However they also understand that these rifts were not entirely self-inflicted, that he had help, so to speak.

Those that think he's a fish that lives upon the bottom of the sea are also only able to look at one side of his story.

so that list of people are wrong then ? of clubs he has worked at or wanted at in aston villa's case , i have always said about rafa benitez if he admitted his flaws and was very much more humble about his failures he would get near on 100% backing , but his horrible confrontatinal way he goes about things even after he isnt in that job no more just goes to show how toxic he is .

How about this then?

Is Steven Gerrard disciplined enough to play CM?

Short answer: no. Hell, even Fergie knows that. So when Gerrard comes to you and says, "I want to play CM not on the right or in the hole" you obviously say "No" because he doesn't understand. If he gets upset about that, well that's his problem. Doesn't make him right. Ditto players like Benayoun who didn't really fit into Rafa's system despite scoring a lot of goals in 08/09.

Question remains: who's word is law? If it's not the manager's, then what kind of club are you running?

You point at a lot of people who had disagreements with Rafa while he was their manager, without considering that he was the boss. He's the one they should be listening to, not arguing with! Are all these people supposedly bigger than the club? Or does the chain of command work differently in your fantasy world? Do you really think Fergie has never fallen out with anyone in his squad or on his management team? Or Wenger? Or Mourinho who said he hated Italian football every single week - how that must have pleased the Inter board and fans! What about Shankly who got booted out of or quit several managerial jobs because the board would not support him? They can't all be wrong either, can they?

The only difference is that Rafa managed Liverpool, and therefore the media that so loves us got hold of his story, and succeeded in poisoning the minds of his supporters.

The first part of this I can agree with. Rafa does need to accept that he isn't always right, put some effort into healing relationships rather than only damaging them. But does a tendency to crack the whip make one "toxic"? Nah.

Fergie has smashed crockery in the dressing room in disgust at his team's performance, sacked players who blinked at the wrong time, made terrible transfer decisions, but somehow he's an angel. Why is the yardstick so different for him? Because he won the league 11 times? He won nothing in his first 7 years at United, but was tolerated, and ultimately saved by Cantona. Rafa smashes all kinds of club records in his first 6 seasons at LFC, but is reviled during a time when the club owners are trying to destroy it? Something doesn't add up, and it's not just because he has a taskmaster's attitude. Then again, maybe modern footballers and club owners think it is they who should be calling the shots, and not the manager.

Only one so far to get one over Fergie was Rooney, 250K a week my arse. Get your head out of the Scotsmans bum cheeks and smell the roses.

Anyway why is a manc on this board anyway? nothing much doing on your board? Your not talking the demise of City or how much they lost this quarter?

Still it is good to see a loyal manc fan on here platying with the liverpool support even from the other side of the world, it is good to see a typical fan here. I heard there are a couple in Manchester too, they are old and won't change, but the wife is now knitting blue scarves

Here's another comparison to mull over. Roberto Mancini comes into a club overflowing with money, and wins the FA Cup. Now he's powerful enough to refuse to play his most expensive player - which one of Mancini or Tevez is wrong there? The winner of course! If Man City allow Tevez to win it undermines Mancini, and ultimately he's just as poisonous as Rafa, not so? But Mancini has the support of the owners, while Rafa was only ever at odds with H&G.

And Mancini gained that after winning but a single cup. Rafa did a lot more than that, with much less money, and he did it faster, yet ultimately he had no power? How does that work? It's pretty hard to alienate everyone that quickly while you are being successful on the field, though it gets easier if someone works against you. Someone like the media, the owners, and half the fans.

Benitez knows what he wants - total control. He won't get it anywhere, but that doesn't imply he's wrong to want it, nor that the problem is entirely of his making.
