Are people being serious about Djribil Cisse???
If we are talking affordable strikers then why not Andy Johnson, Pavelchenko, or what about your wee lad from Blackburn Hoillet - he is quality, not sure if he is a striker though

I been tracking Hoilett since last season, he has impressed me but I don't think he is the one we need. We need a clinical forward that when given a chance will bury it 9 out of 10. I would like to sign Hoilett on a reasonable price as he has potential but at the moment we need a quick fix. For me Cavini fits that bill perfectly.

BBC gosip has a line from Caughtoffside saying that we are going to bid £34m for David Villa. How bizzar!

It was also saying that Spuds are after another striker that could then force Defoe out. I'd quite like him here. Always gets goals and I can't work out why Harry doesn't play him more.

IMO part of the reason we haven't reached the heights of late last season when we were firing on all cylinders is because Suarez hasn't been partnered wuth Kuyt enough up front

They looked as if they have developed a really good understanding together last season and whilst I understand that £35m man Carroll has to be given a chance, his partnership with Suarez hasn't looked quite as effective

I agree though than in an ideal world Suarez needs to be partnered wuth an out-and-out striker - just imagine him alongside the Fowler of 1994-97

emp Jelavic is a good shout actually, quality player and affordable. Snake can't seen Cavani costing any less that 30 mill and I don't think we will be spending that much in January. I think we will buy Cahill and buy a striker worth around 15 mill

Yeah agreed, Kop, Been saying something similar here myself, there's too much space between attack and midfielders, they need to push up when we have the ball and support the strikers, If we can carry the ball out of defense a bit more the midfield can push forward, this will put pressure on the defenders and spread them wider, giving our attackers more time and space on the ball. At present they're just being closed down and outnumbered, forcing them to snatch their shots, they need time to get their foot through the ball more. If we do this I think the goals will come.

I should have added, the reason they don't push up, I think, is fear of leaving a not so strong defense isolated, but that means leaving the strikers isolated! I believe thats the reason we don't concede as many goals as the other top clubs, excluding City, because our midfield hold such deep positions even when we have the ball. I think we need to ditch this mentality and push up to bag more goals.

Whilst he's been our best player in nearly every game for the last 11 months I think that the reason we aren't doing so well is that we don't have a goal poacher to play with him. I'd say keep Carroll for the time being as a 'plan B' but we need to invest a real goal scorer if we want any chance of getting into the CL. LS's ratio is that of a support striker yet he is our main (only!) goal threat. For all of Suarez's skill and craft it doesn't look like he'll be giving us the kind of return he enjoyed in Holland.

Completely agree. I said the exact same thing in another thread a few days back. We're desperately missing a poacher. I know a few people think that we're miles away from being a top team, but I genuinely believe we're only a poacher, top centre back and a right winger away from being right up there (arguably another top notch CM too).

With the way we've been playing lately (not so much the Swansea game - although had AC put that chance away in the 7th minute it might have been very different), if we had a poacher/finisher to put the many chances away that we've been creating, we'd be a hell of a lot better off.
