Well about Anfield you can also say that it's long past it's prime.
Most other top clubs have new or renovated stadiums now, whereas we have a very old and unfashionable one.
I think the new fans (or the ones that don't even turn up) need a "show" to attend.
These people don't turn on like you and I just to watch the red men play out on the field. They need something extra to come there. Yes fair point. Which is why I have always pushed for the new stadium. The club is declining now and we need a kick start.

+1. Very. Interesting post, SP. I saw on twitter last night that there were some fans saying about OOT fans coming to games 'once a year' and blaming them for the fact that the crowd wasn't singing. I think you may have a point with regards to the amount of season tickets, so some fans may be stagnating and just in the habit of going to games, and just going along with it. Even watching a game on tv, I get a bit frustrated when I hear the silence of the ground. I'm from Dublin, and for the last 15-20 years i've attended most of Dublin's championship games (GAA) in Croke Park. The stadium has a capacity of 83,000 and 3 of the stands are all seating, and 1 is all standing. My preference is always the standing one (Hill 16), mainly because there's always a better atmosphere, and always plenty of singing going on regardless of what happens. I'd say the fact that football grounds in England are all all-seaters now, has something to do with it, but in fairness, it's been that way a while now. With season ticket holders, I assume you can't sit with a large group of mates, which would maybe also affect your willingness to start singing.

No Bari just me and my mate. The majority around us are maybe 35 to 55 and maybe 25% of people who look to be in their 60 or 70's.

Yeah, I think so too!
I wonder if we haven't gone past the point where we could lift the club solely by signing som very good players and start off from there.
Judging from what we managed to sign last summer, it seems to me like we can't attract top notch players at the moment. Why else would Kenny et al have signed Henderson, Downing and Adam. I just can't believe that Kenny couldn't see these players are good only - not top class.
It must have been that he saw that, but just couldn't get some top players to put pen to paper.
The remaining ways of coming back to the top is through money ( the Chitty way) or through a new stadium => more fans and more money earned in the end. And then sign the right players - if our youngsters haven't stepped up to it yet that is!

games like swansea ,norwich, wigan and QPR are the games the most daytripper come to as thomas cook dont sell the everton , manchester united/city ETC because they dont get all the tickets for thise games , so they push the lesser games like QPR wigan wolves and the once a year once ever fan turns up and its a day out no more no less , its for argument sake if you went to milan or barcelona to watch a game only one off package trip , yes you might want A.C. or barcelona to win but if they didnt bsck to the hotel nice meal bit of a drink nice weekend out very nice and that what is happening a anfield and its not getting any better .

I think there is some truth in that when I was comuing home from Norwich game there was a group maybe 8 or 10 japanese lads obviously been to the game and were armed with bags of merchanise too and they were going back to hotel in Manchester. Nothing wrong with that Liverpool have always had a big international following and I am sure they will make good future PPV customers. And I am sure that is where the money is but I find it all a bit sad and lets remember why these lads want to go to anfield in the first place. Lets never lose that product.

Unfortunately an Anfield home game has turned into a bit of a freak show, a circus full of daytrippers with jester hats and camera's, this unfortunately is the type of customer the Club wants to attract as they spend more money, comes at the expense of the atmosphere I suppose.
