The atmosphere (or lack of) at Anfield is getting worse almost embarrassing sometimes. I know we can never go back to the kop of old but even in the years following it going all seater the atmosphere was 10 times what it is now. Against Swansea the kop never sung once or if it did I cannot recall it. Just looking at point on another LFC forum someone made. That was the clubs decision a few years ago to expand the season ticket and fan card system such that the, majority of people who go there now are like me not in awe and its almost a routine. Whenever I have a spare ticket I cannot give it away because people are out of the habit of attending. 10 years ago people would attend the odd game or go for the first time and be excited about the event. Now we have a fixed number of permanent attendees (normally middle aged or elderly) attending as a duty sitting there in silence. I wonder whether this is affecting performances on the pitch and contributing to the decline of our club which we can see unfolding before our eyes.
To be honest Stanley I think I am one of those supporters, I dont get excited anymore when I go the game and I do see it as a chore rather than an occasion. The thing with me and alot of people similar is that supporting a football Club was not seen as a celebration or anythin, growing up in Liverpool you just naturaly gave your backing to Liverpool or Everton because thats simply what is expected as a citizen of the City, it was like a duty to support the local Club. I can remember when our average league attendence was low 30,000's and early rounds of the League Cup against your Stockport County's pulled in about 16,000, these were the die hard fans who used to turn up.
I think when football got fashionable and Peter Robinson started to lift the Clubs skirt to OOT and Foreign support to attract more money then the support of the Club changed, most cases for the better, some for the worst. the point I am making is that I am a season ticket holder, have been for years and have never seen going to the match as an occasion or like going to a show, I just see it as because I am from Liverpool it's my duty to support the local Club, wether they are top of the league or bottom of the conference, it's what my family done before me and I will continue to do and pass down, we are all different and show support in different ways.
