Downing is the classic big fish in a little pond player. He looks good at Boro and Villa - seems to provide wicked crosses and a fair share of goals. He does none of this for us - and not dropping him is bizarre, especially after Maxi's goalscoring run last season.
Out of all our new midfield players - the only one that we might keep for any length of time is Adam (possibly Henderson too). I can't see Downing lasting at this rate!
The reasons why downing is keeping his place are his pace and crosses. Maxi is slow as a turtle and contributes zero crosses.
I would keep downing if I were KD too. Maxi goes missing in games 99% of the time.
