Downing had a better game than usual, you've just got it in for him. If as a left winger he provides just one ball a game like he did for Carroll early on, then I'm happy with him. He wasn't woeful.
Pathetic. How childish can someone be to suggest I have it in for a player? Grow up. It is my point of view that he was woeful. When he had good games at the beginning of the season I said he had good games. I have it in for no one. Grow up and act like an adult on a discussion forum.

There's nothing childish, just your very anti-Downing today. And lots of fans on here have it in for players, so don't act like it's an absurd notion. I've had to fight off most of them about Lucas for years. Considering that we had one really great chance, and it was created by Downing, then you have to wonder how bad all the other players were. Were they not woeful?
Downing had one of his better games today, and made a great chance for Carroll which should have been buried. He got into good positions several times, and we haven't had a left winger put in one great chance a game in about 15 years. So yes I'll be happy if he does that each game. If all 4 midfielders, and the two strikers each created a chance as good as that every game, then we'd have won today. So yes...creating a chance like that makes me reasonably happy with him. It's not the only thing he did, but it's an important one.
It's your opinion that he was woeful. You're wrong and overly harsh on Downing. He has been woful this season, but not today.
All that other stuff you said about downing you have just added, you originally said one good ball a game, which I maintain is abbsolutely laughable. He played better today than he did the past 2 games but not as good as the first few games so definitely not one of his better games for me. He was woeful for the majority of the match. I didn't single him out, someone else did for praise and the term 'class' something he did not show and what I said was in reaction to that. I am not anti-downing, which I am not acting, I am telling you is an absurd notion, I call him game by game how I see him play like I do any other player.
It is incredibly childish to jump to you have it in for someone just cause I don't agree with your view. And so I level that term at you again. If you think I'm wrong, about downing's performance I have no qualms with that at all, if you think I'm overly harsh on his performance today that's your opinion and fine too. But don't be a child about a difference of opinion, I am not anti anyone. I called him on how I saw his performance today, wrong place most of the time, scared to go by people most of the time, majority of his balls into the box lacked quality.
I think a number of players had bad games, it was a poor team performance for long periods. Still some positives to take as we continue to make chances.
