Ok fair enough West Brom were quite poor, but I can't recall any matches since the Benitez era where we have had such great organization in the defence and midfield.
The reason imo West Brom were partly so poor was because our Midfield and defence were so organised they couldn't create any chance and before the ball reached the penalty are we had knicked the ball and started to counter.
For the full 90 we always had 2 players jocking the west brom player on the ball whenever they had numbers in their attack.
For the first time this season we actually had a good solid defence and the opposition didn't look like scoring for the whole game.
Whats also surprising is the fact that skrtel and agger seemed to complement each other excellently at cb. Usually there isn't enough organization between them so they mess up positionally or aerialy etc etc due to carra not playing and giving the vocal instuctions on where they should be. The proof is in the dislocated shoulder carra got last season when they had to play together and were pretty poor.
Carroll and Suarez for the first time also linked up and by the middle of the second half were picking each other up without even looking or looking for other players.
Last the right fluidity between attack and defence seemed to be equal throughout the team, it wasn't lop sided in being too attacking or too defensive or playing to much down the right/left/ or centre, the play was sprayed all over the pitch and for the full 90 we were never under pressure at any time from west brom which has also usually happened in every game. e.g man utd after we scored, or norwich after holts goal.
Not sure if it's just the time taken to learn the methods of organization from the coaches or the time to gel for all the new players but Kevin Kean or Steve Clark has finally got through to our players on how to play as a unit.
Hopefully we'll play very similar as a unit against Swansea and use it as a practise match to make sure we play the same for Chelsea and City games.
Also want to add would be happy playing this team even when everyone is fit as adding carra or gerrard or kuyt into the team provides more weaknesses than strenghts to the team at the moment if they are organized for the first time this season.
