As long as they can see some glimpses of potential. If Coates makes mistakes, then he's learning, and if he makes too many you drop him again until he's ready.

I can recall a few people on here slating Flanagan at the end of last season after me made a mistake in one game.
Wasnt it this season after the sunderland game?

No. There was that too, but I was talking about last season, as I said. He'd been very impressive in his first few games, and then he made a mistake in one and got slaughtered. By clowns.

It's in some way the reason where we are now. senitiment got in the way later on in his managerial career Dalglish needed to bin Grobs, Rush, Hansen, Mcmahon but sentiment got in the way just after Hillsborough. He will not make the same mistake twice I can assure you. Lets say with Jamie that the first warning light is on, like Hyppia he will be rested more and more this season as new players are bedded in. A settled back four would have made this easier. However because it is chop and change Carra is needed more than ever to keep it together.

I personally think he's becoming too inconsistent, would like to see flanagan take his place. Or have carra in cup matches, I also don't rate Skrtel anymore.

To be honest, the Carragher situation is an easy fix problem but the decision only seems tough because of his reputation. We have good replacements in the ranks e.g Coates and Kelly. I have not seen Coates play, however having looked at Kelly develop as an defender I think he would be perfectly suited to that CB role Carragher has held for years, and it is time for him to step up and take his place as the number 1 CB.
