It is time the team was allowed to develop without him.

Did you watch Istanbul? If not you should really go watch that and look at him defensively because he got put at right back near the end of the game and I'm not even exaggerating he was brilliant. He is one of the best passers in the game. He has scored so many freekicks, I'm shell shocked that you can even say things like this, and he has gotten a lot of assists from corners, if he was crap at them 4 managers wouldn't put him as first choice to take the set pieces.

I was in Istanbul and it was Gerrard who let Kaka run the shop first half, look at Milans third goal spun off Gerrard easily and played in Crespo. The introduction of Hamann allowed Gerrard to play hi natutal game which is running/driving at the opposition. His passing is excellent but not in an Alonso/quarterback sense, he more drives passes into dangerous areas between the lines pushing the opposition back, forcing errors. The more posession Liverpool have then the more devastaing Gerrard will be, However it will not be Gerrard who dictates the tempo and ensures we retain posession -it will be Adam and Lucas.

is this the team with adam downing and henderson to the fore?

i can see gerrard been pushed forward to where kuyt is playing now when he comes back because a suarez gerrard partnership could work well as they have the link players to feed the right ball to them whihc was missing the year alonso was sold

I'd rather we just handed the ball back to the opposition keeper than let SG take another corner. He's amazing at everything else and is probably our best player ever but his corners are so wasteful.

thats a fair point but two said gerrard is bad at passing and bad at free kicks, i agree when hes in the middle his defensive work is nt great but to question his passing and free kicks or corners is just ridiculous. alonsos passing dictates the play and keeps the play going wich you need but gerrards passes create more goalscoring chances than anyone.

Has to be up there with the worst post I have seen on this site gerrard is the most complete midfielder I have ever seen he can play anywhere on a football pitch even rb in a champions league final when he was needed

Think people are silly to think Stevie is done just look what Paul scholes was doing at the scum at his age and Stevie is far better than him and younger

Two I havnt seen much of your Posts but from what I have seen you don't seem the sharpest tool in the box but time will tell

Stevie G is an excellent header of the ball but sadly he has been whipping them in rather than getting on the end of them because he always wanted to take charge of dead ball situations, so much so that we became predictable from corners and freekicks.

Adam and Downing on corners, Gerrard, Adam and Downing on freekicks and Gerrard and Kuyt on penalties.

Assuming Carroll is starting too...

I would play a 433 formation, Lucas Defending while Gerrard and Adam run the midfield and exploit the space made by the width that is created by Downing on the left, and the skill and handwork of Suarez on the right, in addition to Carroll's physical presence upfront.

Suarez and Downing will enjoy changing positions throughout the match, which Johnson and Enrique can both provide the width when needed. Bellamy, Kuyt, and Maxi can play the exact same formation.

as for the other options, I would play Gerrard and Lucas in a flat midfield of 4 with Downing and Henderson on either flanks.

Possibly one of the most complete players of all time.
He could play anywhere on the pitch but is more influential in an attcking midfield hole with a license to free roam.
Sitting Gerrard behind Suarez would be unbelievable.
