'I am not a Judas' - Raul Meireles on trading Liverpool for Chelsea The 28-year-old midfielder ensured he did not switch clubs to get a better contract and indicated he wants to win titles at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles has declared he did not choose to leave Liverpool for a bigger salary.
The Portugal international signed for Chelsea in the very last hour of the transfer window for an undisclosed fee after just one season at Anfield.
Meireles had become a fans' favourite at Liverpool, but he wanted out after the the club's summer rebuilding programme pushed him to a peripheral role.
The former Porto midfielder said he cannot give out all the details about his decision yet, but stated his transfer was not money driven.
"These are things that happen in football. I can only say good things about Liverpool, it was a fantastic year," he told RTPN.
"People think I am a Judas and that it was because of the money. It was not because of that, I will explain it later, things are still fresh.
"It all happened very fast. I am not the only one to blame for my exit from Liverpool, but I will never stop loving the club and I have great friends there."
Meireles conceded that coach Andre Villas-Boas played an important role in the move and added he hopes to claim silverware with his new team.
"I was very happy with his interest in my signature. The most important thing is to give my all every time and try to help Chelsea win titles."(Source: goal.com) Tbh, I wish he hadn't said this. I think it was fairly obvious enough that he left for money reasons, and personally, after my initial shock and anger at his move passed, I didn't blame him for it, bearing in mind his contract situation. But with him coming out and saying this now, is not only insulting LFC fans' intelligence, but it's also like a slap in the face, and similar to what Torres said when he left for Chelski.

All players move on nowadays its easy. I think he felt pushed out, I wouldnt blame him going to chelsea no guarantee that he will start a match there either. I think he handled it well, there seems to be a bit of resentment in his comments but he did the best thing he defended himself without slagging the club - most of this judas club is incited by the press anyway- i liked miereles but football wise he didnt suit our game which seems to be moving towards a more thrusting aggressive style of play with pace he might suit chelseas though - an effeminate ponsy game i imagine

I just got the feeling that this Boars fella will not last long. Starting from the game against Mancs, they will go down trend.

More time on the pitch for my boy Dirk Kuyt. Thats the way I look at it. I was worried when Stvie G came back that Kuyts time would diminish a little. Never liked Raul, good riddence.

I was disappointed when Meireles decided to hand in his transfer request. I was hoping either one of Aquilani or Meireles will stay , at least until January but seems like both have their mind anywhere except Anfield. Good luck to Meireles but I'm hoping that we will not miss him too much. At least it will make way for some of the youngsters to make a name for themselves. Love to see Raheem Sterling and Suso make their official first team debut. This should be a blessing in disguise. Come on youngsters , it's time for you to shine. King Kenny are known to give youngsters chances , so this will be a great time for you to stake your claim in the first team. Martin Kelly , John Flanagan and Jack Robinson had already done that and it's time for more youngsters to come out and be known.
Just My Thoughts YNWA...
