Carra is a legend, a class act, and remains so.

He's struggling this season and I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of his reign as best team choice. Happens to every player.

In part I think its due to Johnson. As Johnson attacks so much we need more speed at the back as the centre halves need to cover across.

I think Aggar and Skytel will be first choice centre halves shortly with Carra taking over as cover, becoming like Sammi was over the past couple of years.

Based on this season's performance, both Carra and Skrtel need to raise their game. Skrtel in particular seems sloppy in his all-round play. Carragher has made a few mistakes, but on another day, the striker would not have got the penalty decision. Carra, Skrtel, and even Torres can share the blame for Cole's equaliser, but lets not forget that it was Skrtel's poor play that led to the free-kick being conceded from which the hammers gained the corner from which Cole scored. Based on this season's performance - if Carra is past it, then Skrtel hasn't even started!

I believe him & Skrtel know they've made mistakes & its playing on their minds. Each game they are going out there apprehensive & its leading to indecision & complacency. I don't think Carra has lost it & just think he is human after all.

I think perhaps he could be close due to him losing some of what pace he had. He is still reading the game the same but doesn't seem able to get into position quick enough. Hope it was just a bad game but everyone has to give it up sooner or later.

Maybe he will join Robbie down here?!?!?!?!?

Very sadly, I agree. He's been going off the boil for the last couple of seasons now, and I can't see him getting any better, only more and more of a liabilty.
It happens. We all get slower as we get older. That's life. cry

i agree. it is not only against west ham. it is not only this season. it started from the last couple of seasons.

I think Carra has been struggling for the past season and a half and we need to find a suitable replacement. He's been a sensational players for LFC but I believe his days may be numbered!!

I hope he manages to get his form back soon.

I think we lack the speed and a general ball-playing CB. Agger fits this role perfectly! Hope he's back playing injury free soon!

Having said, Carra has been a brillant servant for Liverpool, and dropping him now will do more harm than good. Rafa should really ease him off little by little, while letting the younger players bleed in....

a man on the post is nothing to do with the zonal system - that's just purely a preference thing ..... some coaches like a man on each post (as i do), others will opt to put one on either the front or back post and rafa prefers to have no one on the posts ..... not the way i would choose to defend a corner but i can see rafa's reasoning

as for zonal its not worse than man to man simply different ...... if an attack does its job well then you can't stop them no matter which defence you choose .... which is why the dutch settled on the 'total football' system ...... if you have the ball the opposition can't score being the philosophy ....... but a good attack will use pick and rolls (like in basketball) to create space to score against man to man or simply rely on the fact that in man to man the defender is reacting rather than acting and hoping to exploit the half second advantage the attacker has ...... or waiting for that moment when the defender loses concentration and loses his man, leaving him totally free ........ both man to man and zonal are imperfect systems! we used man to man for years before houllier arrived yet could never defend a set piece ...... its not about which system you choose but about playing them well and right now the team is just not getting it right
