I don't think we can afford to take risks especially on the CB position. We are already thin there, we need to sign an englishman who knows the league well as wakka mentioned. The prospect of signing someone like Mertesacker is great but it may never work out for us. Cahilll is too expensive so it seems Dann is the clear option.

shawcross would be fantastic. Better than Dann for me but I think he will be easily over 10m

Shawcross just isn't that good. Are we signing another back up, or are we trying to sign a first team defender?

Some here don't like him, but I think he's a reasonably reliable defender and I would see that position as more priority than a striker just now, given that we have Kuyt.

I don't think another back up is worth it. If we're gonna get someone, let's get someone a lot better than shawcross.

Sign both dann and shawcross and get rid of either agger or skrtel

for me cahill is the best option. probably the most expensive one as well but maybe we can offer them ngog as part of the deal.
