It's a poor character trait, to be honest.

Surely a worst character trait is that demonstrated by those who have so much belief (I call it naievity) that they wrongly believe we will easily win the league this upcoming season for the first time in 21 years despite the fact the oppoisition is likely to be stronger than ever and that we've failed with stronger squads in the past (rafa's team of 2008-09 for example)

it suggests that they lack the intelligence to judge things objectively, look at what's happened in the past, and always end up with their tail between their legs come the end of the season - only to say exactly the same thing a month later when the new season starts - and still get taken seriously by the schoolboys looking for something to do during their summer holidays

With shamelessly vocal supporters like this it's no wonder we're the laughing stocks of the Premier League

And besides i don't really see what you are getting at - I believe we have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions league which shoukd be gfood enough to eensite suarez's retention in the short term

What i take issue with is all those who say we can win the league and think that all Kenny has to do is click his fingers and any top player will come to the club when the examples of Torres, Mascherano and even the repulsive Benayoun suggest otherwise

sorry Jim you keep going on about being laughed at. Sounds like your own insecurities are the problem and has nothing to do with the team/club. the fact is the doom and gloom if adopted by the majority would become a self fulfilling prophecy and therefore the 'realist' like yourself would charge round saying I told you so. Newcastle are a great example of this.
Thats fair enough but not a trait of your normal Liverpool fan and not one who was brought up on the shankly ideals of we can acheive anything if we stick together and believe. Thats what made St Etiene happen, Roma, and of course Istanbul. Cannot seeing many saying at halftime lets be realists and accept they are better than us blah, blah. no we sang and grouped together and gave it our est shot. Glad you wasn't there!

CP1972 you are right about optimism. But it depends on circumstances. Blind optimism say a Bolton fan (1000% Bolton trotters till I die) saying they will win the league in 2011 / 2 is not optimistic its delusion. And there is a fine line between delusion and optimism especially with a club like Liverpool which has always been at the top or near to it. I remember the 70's and 80's when we were winning everything in sight but people still had a moan then. It’s a part of football and Bob Paisley used to like a moan too and it did the club no harm at all. In fact if the truth is known that’s one of the reasons Bob was so successful. The vacuous optimists with no thought or reason are the danger.

How many people are saying we will win the league? I dont see many I believe we have a good chance of CL place next year and will support the club until its mathematically impossible because thats how I enjoy supporting the club. Thinking were going to get sixth I'm a realist can't be much fun is it?
I think CL spot and push on from there is realistic ambition would represent the majority in my opinion. People who think we will win the league are few a far between and there are a couple on the sack Kenny we are going down side.

Has there been a thread saying we are going to win the league? Because there have been a lot of negative ones from the "realists" who believe they need to correct everyone???

Im sorry but we ARE the big team... we got him from Ajax!

and in the hearts of so many players as well as fans Liverpool is the biggest club.

I think we need to have more faith in our players and the direction we're heading, rather than if a "big team" comes for a player that we'd probably reject until the price was VERY high anyway?

So if you continue to be a doom merchant that's OK as you are merely exercising your democratic right to highlight the positives and NEGATIVES at LFC as this is a forum. However if anyone else disagrees with you (10 other people) they make you sick and they are spouting rubbish.
Are you sure you support Liverpool?
Seems to me, you can't wait for Kenny, Henderson, Carroll and Downing to fail so you can get back on here and moan about how awful they all are and how you said they would be.
The problem with people who are quick to spot other people's faults is that they tend to never see their own.
Your opinion is only one among many, all be it a very negative one, but it is no better than any one else's and you would do well to remember that when adding your pearls of wisdom.

really don't know where all this negativity is coming from apart from the odd miserable b@stard that claims to be a fan and a realist. if you are a supporter get behind the team and the manager or f*ck off and go elsewhere. you won't be missed.
I think you can still be a fan and be realistic. just because I happen to think it's harder than last year to get into the top four and our squad this season is very debateable wether it's that much stronger with the signings this season is i think a fair opinion on my reasons for not getting in this season.
