I rather think that we have reached the stage where we need to reduce the playing staff before we will be allowed to make any further significant signings. I certainly wouldn't blame FSG if they had come to that view. There are two aspects to this : transfer fees and the wage bill. If, for argument's sake, Messrs Cole and Jovanovic went on a free, we paid nothing for their services in the first place, but the problem is their wages. The departure of Paul Konchesky would make a significant dent in the salary bill, and so would David Ngog, and I still think he can do a job for some club or other but not, I think, us. I seem to recall Leeds United paying a proportion of the wages of players who had departed for green fields and pastures new. Would you be happy if, say, Jovanovic went to Anderlecht and we paid £x towards his wages ? Would that, on the whole, not be preferable to paying him an enormous salary and hardly ever playing, except perhaps in the Carling Cup ?

i'm looking forward to seeing us offload players as much as bringing in any new faces.
aurelio, jovanovic, cole, insua, degen, el zhar, aquilani, poulsen, ngog, jones
thats got to be worth £400K p/w if not more
i'd allow all of them to leave on a free apart from aquilani and ngog

Couldn't be happier if that's true. Aqua will make a huge difference this season.

I agree, I think Aqua can be really important in providing a little something different when we are struggling to break a side down.
