I don't think we need to 'save up'. The club just has to sell those players surplus to requirements in the near future to balance the books. I think Henry can give more cash to Kenny if they both think theres a great signing around the corner. Well, Kenny has said that he needs to sell players before he can buy any more. That doesn't sound like someone trying to balance the books - it sounds like he's been told, "that's yer lot Kenneth - shopping is over, now do some managing"

Fine, so what was your point in trying to mock me then??? I wasn't trying to mock you. Remind me who the manager was when we paid 'over the odds' for the £35m man Andy Carroll? LOL - hardly a crowd pleasing signing. The whole deal, especially the price, smacked of desperation and WITHOUT DOUBT we got robbed as it was deadline day, everyone knew we had cash and everyone knew we needed a replacement asap. Do you consider Carroll to be a marquee signing? :-) It absolutely did smack of desperation, yeah. Without a doubt. Torres was landing us in it and we needed to replace him to keep the fans on-side. "Big money", "Crowd-pleasing". Are you saying this signing does NOT fit into this bracket? Because it seems like you're tripping yourself up there. And you're trying to make out that you know more about Kenny and the way the club is run than they themselves, and that nobody else on here has a clue.

I agree that he's 'big money' but in no way is he a "crowd pleaser". If you were told in January that we'd be spending £35m on a crowd pleaser, how far up your wish list would Carroll have been? As has been discussed (possibly by me...) Kenny has a proven track record of not making marquee signings and generally buying british. To me, this says there is NOT a 'marquee' signing on the way, especially as we now have to sell before we can buy. Dream on if you like, it's no skin off my nose, but I;d strongly advise against holding your breath in anticipation of some crowd pleasing/marquee type signing.

Did I not already say that I don't think there will be a 'marquee signing'? Yeah, I believe i've said it more than once, including in the last few posts where I made it crystal clear. So why are you telling me to 'dream on'? Why do you believe Andy Carroll was signed on deadline day for £35m, do you mind me asking?

now ladies, if you go right back to the start of this thread. I simply posed the question on if you thought we would make a marquee signing. That was all. We have spent alot of money this window and despite your best beliefs Carheex some could argue that Carroll, Downing and Suarez are marquee players based on the fees paid. I think we just need to put things into clarity. There are no winners and losers on who is right by the way!?

We're just having a civil discussion here. My opinion is that Carroll certainly qualifies as a 'marquee signing'.
No matter what some people think of Carroll, how could one of the biggest transfers in British football history NOT be a marquee signing? Plus, at the time of signing, he was not only one of the hottest properties around, and the leading scorer (or possibly just one of the leading scorers at the very least) in the Premiership, but he was also injured at the time, and we still signed him - which I think was to show the fans the owners' intent.

I believe he was signed on deadline day because he was! When do you think he was signed?

What on earth are you smoking? Did you miss this post by me?... We're just having a civil discussion here. My opinion is that Carroll certainly qualifies as a 'marquee signing'.
