Lets just give Jordan a chance lets face it he cant be any worse than aqua in his first season. Hes a young kid and 16 mil is a gamble but for so long weve bought 2 or 3 players that combined cost 16 mill and have been utter pish. Give the lad a chance.

I agree, I think that he has real potential and showed last season, in his first real season in the Prem, that he has quality. I just hope we keep Aqua, and Raul. Imagine what Henderson can learn being around Lucas, Aqua, Adam, Raul and Gerrard. I think he will be a fine player anyway, but especially learning from the big boys.

When you consider Utd signed jones for 18 then thats the going rate, at least we didnt pay over the 30 million mark like we did for the big number 9 Micky Quinn

In contrast Henderson has had one season – a season which started well but ended horrifically, capped off with a lamentable display at the U21 tournament. What makes it more surprising is that I don’t see a starting place for Henderson in the current first team and IMO regardless of player inflation, when you pay in the region of £16-20M you want proven talent in am atrea that needs strengthening. The purchase of Henderson doesn’t fit that citeria

It’s hard to make a case for Downing costing £20m BUT he has proved himself to be a pretty decent winger at Villa and plays in a position that we need to strengthen. And also when you consider that he completed the most successful crosses last season, which a big target men like Carrol and even Kuyt would thrive off, you can see why the ckub are willing to cough up £20m

Personally I would have rather tried to get N’Zogbia for half that amount but Downing is probably a safer overall option

I’m surprised we got Adam for £7m, given that we came close to coughing up almost twice that much during the January transfer window

Jim, facts wrong again. last season was his second full season in the prem and you keep judging him on the u21 tournament where the whole group of players were terrible. John Barnes was poor for England but we would all have in our best ever team wouldn't we?
you seem to want to continue to have a go at the lad when he has not even kicked a ball. he is young talented but a little raw, when UTD paid 36mil for Nani and Anderson everyone raved about there transfer policy and yet neither has really succeded in the 3/4 seasons they have been there. We do the same and people like you are critcising already YET we are all aware it is a gamble but the stats show he could be worth it. try and give him a chance at least?

I saw him play about a dozen games for Sunderland last season (most of them towards the end) last season and he caught my eye because I couldn't see what the fuss was about

Then i heard we signed him for a massive fee - so I thought I'd check how our new acquisition was doing in the U21 tournament and whilst you're tright that very few players did themselves justice Henderson again stood out for me and in the games I watched I didn't see him complete one pass

Now he's a Red he gets my full support and I hope that like Lucas, Kuyt, Aurelio and Crouch (other players I doubted) he proves my intial fears misplaced, but until he does that I have a problem with the fee we paid

Could you imagine the stick Rafa would have got from the English press, Jamie Redknapp, Cascarino and all the other Beniez haters out there had he stumped up that much for them

Although to be fair Nani has began to look a pretty dangerous player

Sorry, pretty dangerous player? and Cp, if one of our youth don't really succeed like Nani has in the last couple of seasons I'll be delighted. Last season he was [oops]!ing incredible!?

nani has always been dangerous but since ronaldo left has been top class, valencia is also top draw thats why utd win so many games they can hit you from all angles.

Transfer fee will always be the main talking point. But I would not be bothered too much about that. It's the player's future performance that will be on my mind right now. Transfer fee are only a number that is created by people in the clubs. Players have no say how much they cost. So I hope some people here will stop being critical of these players. They come here thinking that they can contribute to the club's future. So let's give them the chance that they earned by coming to Liverpool FC. Jordan Henderson , Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing will get my 100% support when they put on that Liverpool jersey...
