I have to honest. With the purchase of Downing for 20mil (even though I haven't read that that is the official price at all), I hear a lot of fans moaning about how much we are spending.

I think we got Adam for a complete bargain. When you look at Henderson, he was one of Sunderland's 3 best players last session, and Bent went for 24mil, and Gyan wouldn't be cheap. Young went for 15mil on his last year, and we got Downing for maybe a tiny bit more, and he was their best player last year.

Can anyone tell me if there are any quality players that have been sold for bargain prices, because I think people need to get with the times and realize that prices maybe aren't what they used to be.

Only players I can think of is Monreal for 6mil and Nuri Sahin for 8mil come to mind that fit under our criteria of fairly young players. Anyone else?

Wasn't Ozil for 12m? Cheap in my book. There are bargains out there in lower leagues and abroad but as you said, prices are not the same anymore. Everyone is going for 20m these days. Fingers crossed we sell Ngog for 15-20m laugh

Villa have offered 10m for Nzogbia and not as yet been accepted he could still go for more? I completely agree with the op though. And if go looking for a teams best player who the club don't want to sell you have to pay more. If the team are looking to sell it will be less IMO. All the top teams and title winning teams have spent a significant amount of money on their top targets. Good players don't come cheap.

I agree!

But what is a bit worrying though is that this window probably defines LFC for years to come! Next year we have the new fair play rules limiting us on the expenditures account.

Over the last year (since christmas actually) we have splashed out 35 on Carroll, 16 on Suarez and Henderson, 8 on Adam and supposedly 20 on Downing. That sums up to around £ 95 M!

If we fail now, then I can't see FSG continuing pumping money into LFC. What needs to be done then is a sell out to re-fund the purchase of new players. But the problem then will be that some of the plyers mentioned above probably will have to go. How do we get the invested money back on them if we have failed?

Also a failure now will mean that the real top players that we target will have to enjoy LFC without Europa games. Are they likely to come then? I guess not!

We better be successful the upcoming season!

the hope is not to fail, and hope that at least 3-4 younger lads come through and develop into solid 1st teamers. the prices can be a worry but we no longer live in the days when you can get a keegan or rush from the lower leagues - its about results right away

What FSG are doing is buying the best premier league players available which means less risk on investment instead of buying the likes of aguero sneider etc for mega money and hoping they will adapt to the premier league we simply cannot afford to be uncompetitive again this season. With the players we have bought we will have a solid consistent team and when we get back into the champions league we can afford to take a risk or 2 on big money foreign transfers. FSG know there is no guarantees that a player will be a success but they are taking as little risk as possible by buying proven premier league British based players which in my opinion is the right thing to do and take risks when we are back at the top and have a solid base squad which we know is good enough if signings fail.

This is a massive season for lfc and I believe it will be a very successful one but only time will tell.

Yeah, but the conclusion is that from now on (after this window) we will probably evolve more through internal development as opposed to buying the players we need to fill holes in the squad. Maybe just buy one player in each and every transfer window - financed by selling another player not fitting the bill.

If we this season end up being toooooo far from the top, I'm afraid it will take years and years to get back to the top level again!

The other way to look at it is, if we get into the top 3 and then back into Europe, then players might see that it was only a blip on the larger picture, and we might start getting players wanting to come to us again.
Look at Real Madrid. Like Snake eye said, Ozil wanted to go to then, so they got him fairly cheap, because Bremen wanted some cash, and Ozil only wanted to go there. Kind of like Sahin too.

So when we get back into Europe we will be attracting players too, unfortunate some will be in it for themselves I.e. Torres, Macherano. But at least they are willing. And you never know, we might get players on their final year, with putting a bit of influence on their club to talk to us, I.e. Turan.

The good thing about Henderson, Downing and Adam, is they they all wanted to play for us.

Yeah, agreed!

But what I meant was just that we better end up there 3:rd or 4:th at least, or we're history (again)!

I really hope and think we can make it, but don't even dare to think what will happen if we fail!

Also KK's career is depending on the results this upcoming season. I can't see him survive a failure after having spent about £ 95 M on players.
