We do need a top flight, dependable LB, our defense is frail and make-fist-ish, and will not hold up under pressure against good pacey attackers. We also need a good back up CB. (Any team that has to rely on the greek, has a problem with defense!) If we get a good LB and at least one good winger, I think we will be able to take on any team in the PL with confidence!

On Cissokho: French journalist tells me #MCFC should steer clear of Lyon full-back Aly Cissokho - 'he had a terrible, terrible season'" tweeted The Guardian's football journalist, Daniel Taylor on 29 June 2011.

This topic does not need discussion. Get Baines now! as usual mate you are right on the money. But i would also throw Bale into the mix.... same chance i reckon----- no chance. Would be perfect for us either Baines or Bale.

thanks mate, I don't know about Bale though, would he want to go back to a LB after impressing as a winger? seems odd to me but Either of them would be great. Baines is the cheaper and more gettable for me.

I actually think Bale is an average LB but when you stick him on the left wing, he flies.

In regards to Bale, apparently Barcelona are looking to take him to Catalunya next season as a ready made replacement for Abidal, basically a left footed Dani Alves. Anyway, this rules anyone else out on his signature if true I'd believe.
Baines would be amazing but Everton won't sell. Would be willing to offer Insua/Konchesky + 10/15 respectively for him though.
Johnson is a right back and should not be forced into left back because of our defensive frailty. There are many good left back's and I believe we'll all end up being pleasantly surprised with whoever Kenny brings in.

The first point about a LB is that Jack Robinson looks as though he may well develop into Liverpool's first choice for some time. But he probably will not be ready for a few years yet. Insua will of course return and whereas he is not the new Roberto Carlos, I didn't believe that he was quite as bad as some posters on this forum seem to think. I admit I thought Jay Spearing was not good enough and equally happy to admit I was wrong. I hope Kenny will give Insua a chance to show what he can do. But I recall Newcastle were once interested in this player and he may perhaps be a makeweight for Enrique ? At the time of writing it seems possible that the deal for Downing will be hi-jacked, which if true will mean that Villa will be in the market with an urgent need for a wideman and cash to get one. We were supposed to looked at a French player called, I think, Bastos, who was supposed to be able to play at LB and also as a wide man, and his age might not be quite so important if we have Robinson and Sterling coming through as a long term solution.
