can i just throw it out there that the our defence this season and towards the end of last season has been a serious worry. this season only hull, wigan and everton have conceded more goals. personally i think this is one situation that the media can't blame on xabi.

Well i think if we read what Benitez said, its in one of the papaers, it clearly states that even with our so much crictisized ZONAL marking , Liverppol have conceded the least amount of goals from set pieces that any other team in the prmier league.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has hit out at pundits who claim they struggle to defend at set-pieces.
"Today was very difficult," conceded Benitez. "How do Bolton score? Set pieces. It's normal. But if you analyse the statistics for two years we only conceded six goals from set pieces and were the best team in the Premier League.
"We can talk about man to man marking every day if we want, but maybe some experts or pundits on the TV don't analyse things properly."

we have had enough injuries to our defence this season. Skrtel,Agger,Aurellio Carra had to have some stitches...

It happens with man marking as well. we will miss Alonso as he won us plenty of free kicks last season. Insua is very short, one of the shortest players in the prem league, so will have difficulty dfeending against some of the bigger players.

I admire a guy like Rafa, he has his ideas, he is prepared to stick with it, no matter how many people give him stick. He has a hard head. lol

I also think we've conceded more than 6 goals from set pieces in the past two seasons. I hate watching when the opposition have a corner or free kick anywhere near our goal....It's drive me crazy and puts my heart in my throat every time.
We are very susspect at defending set pieces and i also think our record at scoring from set pieces is ordinary but that's another topic!!

Our defence has been poor this season because it hasn't been settled.
The Spurs game we had Skrtel, Stoke game we had Ayala, Villa game we had Skrtel who was clearly not up to it and Bolton game we had Kyrgiakos. Add to that a new right back and inexperienced left back. These things take time.
