Just a few thoughts on how our players fared this season
Goal Keeper:
Reina 6
Not his best season by any means but still reliable and committed himself to the club after becoming disillusioned
Defenders:
Carragher 7
Showed how important he was to the team when he wasn’t in it and we conceeded waaay too many sloppy goals
Skrtel 6
Like many players he played much better under Kenny than Roy
Agger 5/6
Another injury ravaged season that came to a premature end denying him a proper run in the team
Kyriagos 6
One of our better players under Hodgson but lost his place under Kenny after a few clumsy mistakes
Konchesky 3
What can one say?
Aurellio 5
Did okay on the few occasions he played but this was another season marred by injury
Johnson 6
Didn’t have the best of starts and had a brief falling out with Hodgson but another player who upped his game under Kenny
Kelly 6/7
Only a rockie but proved himself as an emerging talent before injury cut his season short
Flanagan 7
Won an unlikely call up to the first team and kept his place ever since after hardly putting a foot wrong
Midfielders:
Lucas Levia 7
We were told that he wasn’t a holding midfielder but in the latter half of the season he performed to a standard few (myself chief amongst them) thought he was capable of. Without doubt the most improved LFC player
Spearing 6/7
After a few performances of questionable quality in previous seasons, Spearing really has played with a remarkable degree of maturity forming as reliable partnership with Lucas in the centre of the park
Merieles 7
Even before his purple patch in January/February he was clearly Liverpool’s best signing last summer
Gerrard 6
Notwithstanding a few man-of-the-match performances (Man Utd (A), Napoli) by his own impeccably high standards Stevie will be disappointed that he was in the stands for most of our best performances after persistent injuries marred his contribution to this campaign
Maxi Rodriguez 6
Pretty hit and miss for much of the season but has a good eye for goal and finished the season on a high, bagging a couple of hattricks. Definitely one to hold on to
Jokanovic 4
Looked a pretty hot prospect after his first game in Europe – so did Joe Cole – but like the England midfielder unable to play well enough to get into the team and simply didn’t get a look in after a couple of mediocre performances under Kenny
Poulsen 4
He might have been good at Copenhagen but had Roy watched even a few of his performances at Juventus it was clear he wasn’t going to make the grade. Disappointing
J Cole 4
No one can question his talent, quality or even his effort, but it just hasn’t happened for Joe at Anfield at all and whilst i hope he gets another season to prove that he’s still got it the size of his pay packet makes it unlikely
Shelvey 6
Another emerging talent although who will be looking to make a powerful impact next season
Forwards
Suarez 9
Was the attacking orchestrator of all of the teams big wins in the latter half of the season. Exceptional Fernando who?
Kuyt 7
Another who upped his game considerably in the latter half of the season, putting in a string of all-action typically selfless performances and chipping in with some important goals to finish the club's top scorer
Carrol 6
Unfair to give him a mark at all really as he was clearly wasn;'t match fit since his switch but there were some moments of chemistry between him and Suarez and his put Man City to the sword with two very well taken goals
N’Gog 5/6
Started well enough, particularly in Europe, but after a great goal against Arsenal failed to make any real impact in the league and found his opportunities limited as the season went on
