I think he's been backed all the way by the owners and the problem has been the players he's bought on big money that havnt performed and been shipped out within a few years. I can only name on one hand the decent players he's bought during his time at the club.

you have to back or sack him....

if they are holding funds because they don't trust him then they should never have given him a new contract.

sadly, i fear it's just that they don't have any money. all the profits from last season have gone towards paying the loans.

no he has not been well funded by the owners, in his first few years he did spend alot of money but it was needed and we improved alot, last season and this transfer window so far rafa has many a profit on transfers, so in other words he has not been funded at all in the last year, so any blame for our season has to lie with our owners not rafa, if u stand still in football you actaully go backwards which we may have done due too no funding from our owners

In the past he has been well funded but has squandered vast amounts of money - his record in the 0-12m bracket player (with the exception of reina) is more miss than hit. In the 12m+ bracket his record is superb (lets face it - its an easier supermarket to shop in!!!). The main fustration is that this is the summer, "the summer", coming off a near miss in the league, huge confidence in the squad etc when you back the manage to the hilt. Give him the 40m for villa, the 25m for silva and the 17m for johnson. I get the feeling that if the league ain't delivered this year then rafa is definitely gone. The above players aren't suddenly gonna leave on a free or become worthless overnight.

Very few people get excited anymore by a 2m 30yr old from greece or even a 7.5m italian rightback that few have heard of !!!! Add up the amount of 1m-8m signings that rafa has made (all or most of which are no longer at the club) now take that money and go shopping for five players - you'd end up with five bloody good players

So given the fact we have won one major honour in the last 20 years and we have players on millions of pound a year contracts, how much money do you think Liverpool Football Club should be spending. How many years do you think a football Club can go on spending money on players costing 15 million pound or more or giving it's stars 80- 130 thousand pounds a week without actualy winning the games biggest honours to offset against such massive outlays. I ask this because this is what happend to Leeds United and nearly the toffs under agent Johnson, these clubs spent money beyond the means without winning anything in return to claw back such massive outlays. Liverpool Football Club were a massive club in the 70's and 80's part of a big five unfortunately times have changed and there is now only a big two which is Chelsea and United and soon to be three when City start to flex there financial muscle.

Great to have man city fans on here!!!!! So you're comparing the global brands that are leeds and toffs to our club, please stop. Both situations caused by gambling chairmen, not greedy b'stards with no money trying to buy something on HP by r*ping it and its assets blind. Leeds qualification for the champs league was what inevitably put them in the dudu and the toffs would have went the same way had they qualified during that period.

No what I am sayin is that when we where one of the big clubs and major players in the football world all those years ago we could afford to spend big on the best players in the world or pay the most money for them. Football has changed now and unfortunately for us we are only a big club in name only because of our fantastic history, we have now been overtaken in this country by Chelsea and City financial wise and United because of the fantastic success they have had in the last 15 years while we have stood still and let the grass grow under our feet. Put it this way if Lionel Messi all of a sudden said he wanted to leave Barca he would choose either Madrid, United, Chelsea or City all before us he would go for two reasons either success like signing for United or Madrid or for financial reasons where he would go to City or Chelsea am afraid we would not come into the equation before them clubs and thats the point I am making. People on here keep saying we should be spending money on the very best players in the world but how can we pay for them if the club does'nt have a rich sugar daddy or have won major honours in the recent past, it's nearly a quarter of a century since we last lifted our own domestic league and fans need to acceppt football has changed and we are no longer the club we used to be on or off the field, it happend to Forest, Villa and Everton although we have'nt gone backas far as those we soon will be unless leagues and Champions leagues return. There is no way Torres will be stayin at a club that does'nt win leagues or Champions leagues if he does'nt go after the world cup he will deffo be gone the season after.

Ged, for once I finally agree with some of what you are saying. We are no longer one of the biggest clubs financially and that is due to the funds being sucked out by the owners.
As rafarendum says, we have made plenty of money in the past five years to have funds available to bring bigger name players to the club and hopefully get more success on the pitch but when you have to bid for your second or third choice player because the funds aren't there for you it makes it difficult. I agree that rafa's success in some player he's brought into the club hasn't been great but all managers have a hit miss ratio and not all players work out. I believe that he was able to get his first choice option then our squad would be much stronger and would have won the title by now especially given how close we came last season.
