I really get annoyed with these managers who suddenly call for goal line technology the moment their team loses after a referee gets it wrong. If goal line technology was such an important thing in their lives they would be calling for it every week. Steve Bruce was all on about it when we got a penalty we should not have, but not a word from him since. Clearly it wasn't that important. Now 'Arry, who has more cause for complaint because losing yesterday could see his side finish 6th and therefore out of Europe (even though they still have their own fate in their hands), suddenly calls for change. If United lose the title I'll bet Fergie will have something to say about this game as well, but his words will carry the taste of bitterness rather than progress, and if 'Arry says nothing again about goal line technology between now and the start of next season, his remarks will have as much weight with the FA as Kenny's post-match comments to Wenger.

If people want goal line technology they need to form some sort of committee or forum and actually put some sort of proposal or demand to FIFA or the FA. Until that happens the FA are not obliged to do anything.

So. Are you for or against goal line tech?

Actually the title of this thread is meant to be "Use of technology", rather that being about goal line technology specifically.

I am for goal line technology. People like Arry like you mentioned only complain when it hurts their team, If Arry, Steve Bruce, Holloway, etc want this to happen then they need to get together and maybe call up all PL teams up and tell them to form some sort of committee. I watch other sports such as Rugby and its feels so nice when the referee is not sure whether its a try or not, All he has to do is do his TV signal and bam within 30 seconds max, they will determine if its a try or not, if its a penalty or not, if its a red card or not. I think It will not hold up the play as people think it will because as we have seen, Lampard's goal yesterday only happens every 20-30games so it is very rare. Time to add this feature to football and minimise those contreversies.

The thing that gets me is how many people say it degrades the referee, when in fact I think referees in general would be more than willing to have it as a tool to assist them in making every call 100% correct. It works very well in rugby (as you point out) and the only occasions where ruling take a lot of time are when the ball is obscured from all camera angles (about as rare as Lampard's issues with the goal line).

Football could take another leaf out of rugby's book and have the clock stop whenever the ball is out of play. Time wasting becomes pointless and there will be no more arguments about whether the referee added the correct amount of stoppage time. So the players will need to run a bit more - shouldn't they be fit enough for that, given their salaries? Rugby is a far more physically demanding sport but they play 80 minutes every week without complaints.

Totally in favour of 'goal line tech' not so much in favour of technology in general. But seeing as it is poosible and now not expensive to implement there is no reason not to do it. Cynics will say thatthe fact that platini and the old cronies won't implement it is because they like to exert 'infuence' on the referrees in the big games. It is true that managers bleat on about it only if it affects their own team, but that can be said for red cards or offside, if the argument comes up regularly or changes the results in big matches, then its a problem.

One thing I dont think they make enough use of is the communication betwen the linesman and the ref , for example if the linesman spots a handball before a cross, there is supposed to be a bleeper system whereby the ref receives an electronic message that an infringement has occured as sometimes the ref doesnt take any notice of hte linesmans flag. But this is more to do with inconsistent refereeing, We dont want to see a 5 minute pause after every goal to analyse wheter or not it was valid, but what we do need is a quick way of informing the ref (and making him reconsider a decision) if there is major reason to think a goal should be disallowed or for example if a horrific foul has been committed and the ref didnt see it.

Quite simple you can have a 4th official not on the pitch but watching on tv in the stadium who can do the same thing. the important thing is to keep the referree's decision final, just give him help with the goal line tech and make him accountable if someone (4th official not on pitch or linesman) asks him to relook at a decision. IF the ref doesnt see something its not his fault but he must be given time to reconsider a decision - i am not in favor of taking power off the ref in the match.

apparently the goal line tech that has been tested has not been 100% right so fifa would spend a lot of money for nothing because it goes without saying that before its introduced it has to be perfect

How fking hard can it be damnit? Their fifa, just contact other sports and get their advise, expertise on the matter. Its not hard for them, Fifa are just making it impossible to suck more money into their fat bank accounts.

Dont need it. These incidents are what football is all about. They even themselves out over time. Lampard scored against the Germans but wasnt given. Didnt score against spuds yesterday but was given. If we had goal line technology then we wouldnt have anything to talk about and discuss. Also if Spurs had a decent keeper then brown envelope Redknapp wouldnt have to moaning about his season ending with them out of Europe.

Its what makes football the game we love so much.

i see what your saying but the "equals it's self out" comment is b411ocks....if it was true we'd have had a beach ball score a winner for us...it doesn't equal it's self out, you just get the decision or not..goal line technology should be there as on option for the ref to use. where the only top sport not to use it.
