Just throwing a name out there. I want to see Meireles in a more central role for this one; he's not terribly effective on the wing, free role or not, and if we play 4-2-3-1 Kenny will play Suarez in the hole instead.
I'll be honest, flames, I'm not liking 4-4-2. We have too many central midfielders and no wide players, and if Suarez is not going to cut it as an LM/LW then we will struggle to get all our best players on the pitch in natural positions (though Kenny is doing better than Roy was at this). If Kenny was going to play a midfield diamond (which suits everyone except Carroll) he would have done it by now. I mean, this looks interesting:
-----------Reina-------------
-Flano--Carra--Skrtel--Robbo-
---Spearing-Lucas-Meireles---
-----------Suarez------------
-------Kuyt-------Carroll----
But without Kelly and Johnson as the fullbacks we leave ourselves exposed on the flanks, and while Carroll is a good footballer he's no Drogba (or maybe he is and we just don't know it). If Carroll is unfit then maybe:
-----------Reina-------------
-Flano--Carra--Skrtel--Robbo-
---Spearing-Lucas-Shelvey----
-----------Meireles----------
-------Kuyt-------Suarez-----
But I'm not a Shelvey fan, tbh - dawdles around the pitch, no fire in the belly. Cole can't be worse, but that's not to say he's better. Selection is problematic, and we still don't have wide midfielders to track back and support the inexperienced fullbacks.
Otherwise just field the same 11 that walked off the park at the Emirates, but with Carra back in place of the Greek. But hopefully this time with some attacking intent.
